Ricky Thornton Jr. revealed he’ll only be competing on opening night in the Wild West Shootout.
In a post to Facebook, Thornton shared his upcoming schedule through the beginning of February and it only lists the opening night of the Wild West Shootout on January 10th and none of the other five nights the mini-series will be in action at Central Arizona Raceway.
In the comments on the post, Thornton confirmed he’d only be racing in the event on that night and none of the others.

Thornton will be competing with the Adam Family Motorsports team on that one night instead of his Koehler Motorsports team. The Adam Family Motorsports team made that announcement on New Year’s Day, “Ricky Thornton Jr. to pilot second Adam Family Motorsports car at the Wild West Shootout at Central Arizona Raceway!!”
“RTJ will pilot our Longhorn Chassis late model,” the team added. “This is just for the Wild West Shootout. Ricky and Bobby Koehler owner of Koehler Motorsports are both great friends of Adam Family Motorsports and team owner Joe Adam. We are happy to help out Ricky have a ride at his home state track! We know all his fans in Arizona will be happy to see him racing also!!”
Thornton and his team explained why he was racing with Adam Family Motorsport instead of Koehler in a post earlier this week, “With Ricky’s commitment to racing Chili Bowl, it didn’t make sense for our team to travel from North Carolina to Arizona for just a night or two, but we couldn’t completely miss out on the chance to welcome the WWS back to Arizona.”
While Thornton will only be in action a single night for the Wild West Shootout, his schedule indicates he’ll back with Koehler Motorsports in the late model for the Sunshine Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park from January 21st through the 24th.
