The World of Outlaws announced that Ricky Thornton Jr. will be competing in the World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in a sprint car.
The series made the announcement on Facebook, “The first batch of World of Outlaws World Finals entries is in! Among them? Biiiiig Sprint Car guy, RTJ”
Thornton reacted to the post with both looking eyes and a shoulder shrug emojis.
Thornton’s schedule on his website has also been updated to include all four dates for the World Finals beginning on November 5th and going through November 8th. It lists that he will be competing with the both the World of Outlaws 410 Sprint Cars as well as the dirt super late models.
However, the site still does not list The Gateway Dirt Nationals, but Thornton will also be at that event. The Gateway Dirt Nationals announced last week that Thornton would be in a modified.

Thornton performed exceptionally well at the World Finals in his late model last year. He won the 35-lap feature on night 1, finished fourth on night 2, and ended up 1 spot short on the final night in a heated battle with Chris Madden. Given his performance last year, he’s definitely one of the favorites heading into it this year.
It was a different story with the sprint cars. He finished 7th in a last chance showdown race in night 1, 5th in a C feature on night 2, and 4th in a C feature on the final night. It was his first time competing with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car series. He had previously made his 410 sprint car debut with the High Limit Series at Lernerville Speedway in September 2024.
Before Thornton competes in the World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, he’ll be competing at Central Arizona Raceway this upcoming weekend with USAC National Sprint Cars for the Western World Championships.
