Dirt late model driver Ricky Weiss, who had been competing in the Hunt The Front Super Dirt Series this year and was third in points, shared that he’s been denied access to the United States after he returned to Canada for a family emergency.

In a post to Facebook, Weiss wrote, “This post is so hard for me, but I wanted to let my fans, friends and sponsors know what has happened the last couple of weeks. While I was in Eldora, I received an emergency call from my mom, that my Grandpa was critically ill. I booked the next flight to Winnipeg, as I needed to be with my family at this time. I got to spend some very special time with my grandpa, he was awake and happy to see me. Unfortunately, he passed away the next day.”

“I stayed in Winnipeg for another week as it was a heartbreaking time for my family and I needed to be with them,” he continued. “After my grandpas memorial service, I felt it was time to get back to Tennessee and focus on the Hunt the Front series race coming up. I thought if I could win the championship it would be a wonderful tribute to my Grandpa.”

However, he then shared, “Unfortunately, when I went to fly back to Tennessee, I was denied access back into the USA. With the heightened security at the borders right now, I require extra paperwork that I had not needed in the past. I am working with my immigration lawyer on the paperwork, but it takes time.”

Finally, Weiss apologized, “I’d like to apologize to my sponsors, fans and all of my supporters during this difficult time.”

It is unclear exactly what this extra paperwork is, but Weiss did plead guilty to a felony charge of substantial battery with intent to bodily harm in the state of Wisconsin back in April. The Court found him guilty but withheld sentencing and deferred judgment for two years. It is possible this guilty plea and conviction could be what is necessitating the extra paperwork and preventing him from entering the United States.

Nevertheless, Weiss is not the only driver to have issues entering the United States. Australian driver Kye Blight revealed he would not be competing in the United States after the end of the 2024 season. Blight revealed at the time, “I applied for a P1 Visa and after many months of back and forward with lawyer and immigration, my application was denied.”

What do you make of Weiss being denied entry into the United States due to needing extra paperwork?
