A new rumor alleges that Jonathan Davenport and his Double L Motorsports team might not chase the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series for 2026.
On New Year’s Day, Davenport and his Double L Motorsports team announced a new primary sponsor in Ace Doran Hauling & Rigging as well as teasing a new black and red paint scheme. The team shared in a press release on Facebook, ” As the calendar flips to 2026, Double L Motorsports and driver Jonathan Davenport are excited to announce the addition of a new marketing partner in Ace Doran Hauling & Rigging. The Cincinnati, Ohio-based company will serve as the primary sponsor of the #49 Super Late Model for the 2026 campaign, which kicks off in only a matter of days on January 10 at Central Arizona Raceway.”
While the team announced Ace Doran Hauling & Rigging as its new primary sponsor, it also shared that Nutrien Ag Solutions, ASC Warranty, Mark Martin Automotive and Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas would continue on as sponsors.
This press release was then shared to X by FloRacing’s Kyle McFadden, who commented, “Jonathan Davenport teased at the Lucas Oil banquet there’s an “exciting announcement” coming before the New Year. I take this is that.”
That post drew a response from Jonathan Davenport who teased, “There’s more……….”

During the Lucas Oil banquet, Davenport said, “Thanks to Steve Martin and Nutrient Ag Solutions, longtime partner and sponsor of ours. We got some exciting news coming for next year. And like to thank also ASC Warranty, Dyna-Gro Seed, obviously, Longhorn. Thanks Steve [Arpin], everybody back at the shop, Bilstein, all our other product sponsors.”
It is unclear exactly what Davenport is referring to in response to McFadden, but Justin Fiedler at Dirtrackr said on his recent daily show on YouTube, “I’ve been told here, very recently, that Davenport’s other announcement could be a schedule change. He’s been a series regular with Lucas for the past three seasons, but that could be coming to an end. A pick-and-choose schedule seems most likely, but it sounds like there’s at least been some contact between the team and the World of Outlaws Late Model Series about a potential flip.”
Davenport finished third in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series this past year behind champion Devin Moran and Ricky Thornton Jr. However, he was in the hunt the entire season swapping first place with Thornton throughout the season until the series switched over to its playoff format.
He finished third in 2024 as well behind Thornton as the champion and Moran in second. He was fourth in 2023 when the series had its winner-take-all race at Eldora for the championship four.
The last time he did not run with Lucas Oil was in 2022. That year he ran a pick-and-choose schedule and won 24 out of the 74 features he entered. He amassed 54 top 5s and 67 top 10s. He took home wins at the Eldora Million, the USA Nationals, the North-South 100, the World 100, the Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals, the Silver Dollar Nationals, the Topless 100, and the Sunshine State 50 as well as the Bristol Bash and the World Finals.
As noted in the above Facebook post, Davenport makes his 2026 debut at the Wild West Shootout. It begins on January 10th.
