The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series revealed details about its new $275,000 end of season bonus program that was hinted at when the series announced it would return to a traditional season-long championship.
During the series’ banquet in the middle of the month, series Director Rick Schwallie announced the return of the season long points format, but also hinted at a new end of season bonus program. He said at the time, “We do have a lot of events at the end of the year. Those final five events or so of our schedule that are very lucrative and big paying events and those racetracks have counted on the eyeballs of our audience watching us at that time to be successful. With that we’re going to do a few bonus programs for next year that are very lucrative to place a big spotlight on our sport. I’m excited to announce those and we’ll do so in the next two weeks before Christmas.”
Now, in a press release, the series shared that with its partners in Big River Steel and ARP it will “put up an additional $275,000 for the Big River Steel Bonus Program presented by ARP, awarding drivers following Aug. 29’s Rumble by the River finale at Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway in a separate miniseries encompassing the season’s final five Saturdays.”
Those final five Saturdays include the $75,000 to-win race at Knoxville Raceway, the $50,000 to-win at Brownstown Speedway, the $50,000 to-win at Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway, the $50,000 to-win at Eldora Speedway, and the Dirt Track World Championship at West Virginia Motor Speedway.
How it works is that the top five drivers in the championship standings will compete in a miniseries earning points in the five crown jewel races. The winner will take home an additional $100,000. Second place through fifth receive $40,000, $30,000, $20,000, and $10,000 respectively.
For drivers in sixth through 15th they will be in a separate miniseries with the winner earning $25,000, $15,000 to second, and $10,000 to third.
On top of all this, the series announced that “the highest finishing driver of the top 15 in championship standings in each of those final five crown jewel events of the season will receive an additional $5,000.”
It’s possible if a driver sweeps the miniseries and wins the overall season-long championship that they could take home over $600,000. That number is possible given that if you win the Lucas Oil Championship you will win $250,000.
The entire season-long points fund is as follows:
- $250,000
- $200,000
- $150,000
- $125,000
- $100,000
- $80,000
- $60,000

- $45,000
- $40,000
- $35,000
- $30,000
