Modified driver Joe Duvall shared a rehabilitation video where he revealed he suffered 3rd degree burns on nearly 50% of his body, but promised that he will be back.

Duvall wrote, “On Aug 25 I suffered 3rd degree burns on 48% of my body. I’m not a victim, I’m a survivor. Thank you for all of your prayers. To squish any rumors, I will be back.”

Those 3rd degree burns were the result of an arc flash while he was on the job at Duvall Electric, the company that he owns and operates. He shared at the beginning of September, “I was involved in an arc flash and have 3rd degree burns on 50% of my body. God’s gonna use the 91 for his glory. We ain’t done.”

Duvall underwent multiple surgeries following the accident. However, they all went well. Following the first one, Duvall’s wife Shelley shared, “The doctor just came out and said Joe did amazing! They were able to take care of a few more spots during surgery, and now they’re going to give him a few days to rest and recover before they do the second surgery, which will hopefully be sometime Monday.”

Following the second surgery, she shared, “Sorry it’s taken so long to update today after surgery the anesthesia and pain meds didn’t agree with Joe. Surgery did go good today. Should be finished with surgeries for a quite a while we hope.”

“Now it’s time to start healing process and all that it intel’s. Praying for a goodnight and even better day tomorrow. Continued prayers appreciated. God is good,” she continued. “Joe thinks that God is better than good and wishes he could find a word that is even better than good. And Joe says all the glory to God.”

On Tuesday, September 8th, Shelley shared that he was moved out of the ICU, “Things are definitely moving in the right direction! Joe got moved out of ICU today but still close by just down the hall to progressive but ICU nurses will still keep an eye on him.”

“Full takedown yesterday and shower went really well yesterday. All the graphs are looking really good and healing great. The donor sites take much longer to heal so praying they continue to heal with no infections. Keep those healing prayers coming please,” she requested.

He was able to go outside for the first time on Friday, September 11th. Shelley shared, “Today…….was a great day! With Joe’s bloodwork improving quite a bit they decided it was time to let him go outside and get some fresh air for a few minutes. There was a lot of emotions being his first time outside the hospital walls since the accident. His PT and OT are going great!”

“Graph is donor sites are still healing nicely except a few areas will have to be grafted again,” she continued. “He continues to amaze us all and each day he is one day closer to him coming home!”

“Thank you all for the continued support and prayers. It means so much to us. And thank you all for checking on Addison and I as well and all the prayers going out. Thank you for the cards, flowers, dinners and lunches, messages, calls, text we have received. We’re so blessed,” she concluded.

The racing community has rallied around Duvall following his accident with prayers and support. Fellow Modified driver Jim Chisholm shared that he and Hodges Brothers Racing printed out “91” stickers in his honor and were passing them out at Tri-State Speedway at the end of August. 

On top of passing them out at Tri-State Speedway, Chisholm relayed, “If you’d like to put a ’91’ sticker on your race car to show your support for Joe while he is healing, send us a message with your mailing information and we’ll get one sent your way. There is NO cost for the sticker. If you’d like to help with the cost of stickers and shipping, we will accept a free-will donation, but there is absolutely NO obligation.”

“Joe has a lot of friends in this racing community, and we hope these “91” stickers can be a reminder that we are thinking about him, praying for his recovery, and looking forward to seeing him back at the track, SOON!”

Cade Dillard recently sported one of the stickers on the side of his car when he competed at Salina Speedway over the weekend.
