Shane McDowell Racing announced that the team will next compete this upcoming Thursday at Volunteer Speedway in the 3rd Annual Scott Bloomquist Scorcher.

The team stated in a post on Facebook, “Our next event will be this Thursday to remember our good friend Scott Bloomquist. The world is a lot more dull without you buddy…we miss all your crazy shenanigans, well…most of them lol…”

The Scorcher began back in 2004 with Randle Chupp winning the inaugural race. The race became the Scott Bloomquist Memorial Scorcher in 2024 following Bloomquist’s death. Bloomquist previously won the race twice. First, he won in 2006 and then again in 2010. He competed in the race 14 times and had an average finish of fourth. He never finished outside the top 10. His worst finish was 8th. He did that in both 2005 and 2010. He finished in the top 5, 10 times in his 14 attempts and obviously finished in the top 10 all 14 times. He was on the podium for half of the races he competed in.

Promoter and operator of Volunteer Speedway Vic Hill shared that this year’s race will be the biggest event of the year at the track. “It’s always been a big event, but now it’s even bigger because with Scott, like I said, he’s never going to be forgotten. We’re going to keep him in everyone’s memory from the good, the bad, the medium, the funny stuff he’d say when he got out of the cars.” 

One of the ways the track will be honoring and remembering Bloomquist is by having his car at the track where fans can view it and takes pictures with it. 

This year the race is being sanctioned by the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series. It will pay $12,018 to the winner with a nearly $40,000 total purse. It takes place on Thursday, September 17th ahead of the NASCAR Cup Series race at Bristol. The pit gates will open at 3 PM while the grandstands will open at 4 PM. The Driver’s Meeting will takle place at 6 PM and hot laps start at 6:30 PM. 

Along with the Super Late Models, there will be Crown Vics ($700 to win), Street Stocks ($600 to win), and Sportsman ($800 to win) also on the card. 

If you plan to attend in person a pit pass will run you $45. A pit pass for kids 6-12 is $10. There is no charge for children 5 and under. A grandstand ticket is $30. It is $10 for kids 6-12. 5 and under are free. There will also be tiered parking. It costs $50. Kids aged 6-12 

The previous Scott Bloomquist Memorial Scorchers were won by Cameron Marlar and Jonathan Davenport.
