Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series announcer Dustin Jarrett shared an encouraging health update after previously sharing he’s been battling a mystery illness.
Back on August 7th, Jarrett shared he would miss the North-South 100 because he was suffering from a mysterious illness. He wrote in a Facebook post, “A few days ago, I started not feeling well and parts of my face and temple were sore, tender to touch, and slightly swollen. On Wednesday, I went to the doctor after having terrible cold chills & body aches. I began immediate medication for Shingles, although the exact cause of the illness was unknown.”
“24 hours later, the chills & body aches have improved a little, but the redness, swelling, & tenderness has gotten worse. I’ve been taken off the initial medication and prescribed an aggressive antibiotic. At this time, my illness is unknown,” he added.
On August 8th, he shared another update, “Woke up this morning feeling very tired with incredibly slow cognitive skills. Had my scheduled second doctors appt at 10:30am. Dr. sent me straight to ER. Got a CT scan, blood work, EKG, etc … everything came back normal. They also tested me for Lyme Disease and we’ll get those results in the next 4-5 days. They’ve started me on my third different medication in the last three days. At home resting now.”
Two days later on August 10th, he shared, another update, “I felt a little better Saturday as the day went on and thought I was turning the corner, but then suddenly felt really nauseous as I was getting ready for bed. Woke up Sunday morning woozy and fatigued again. Didn’t get up until 10am. Laid back down around noon and slept another two hours. My head still hurt during the day and my energy level is roughly negative zero. I started on Doxycycline Friday night. This evening, my initial Lyme test came back negative … but those can take a while to show positive. I have a follow-up with my PCP on Monday.”
In his most recent update on August 13th, Jarrett stated, “I’m happy to report that over the last 36 hours, I’ve been feeling much better. Today was my first day with zero wooziness, and the fatigue is minimal compared to what it’s been over the last week-and-a-half.”
However, he shared that doctors have still not provided him with an official diagnosis, “Still no ‘official’ diagnosis, but Lyme Disease seems like the most likely culprit, especially given my body’s positive reaction to the Doxycycline thus far.”
It does not appear that Jarrett will be with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at the Topless 100 at Batesville Motor Speedway. Hopefully, his condition will continue to improve and he will back in action when the series heads to Port Royal Speedway for The Rumble by the River on August 22nd and 23rd.
