Brock “Bam Bam” Pinkerous addressed how he was “taken out of the race” while battling for the lead during the 5th Annual Ted Siri Memorial at Outlaw Speedway with the United Late Model Series on Friday, May 8th.
According to a report from DirtonDirt.com, Pinkerous and Demetrios Drellos were battling for the lead with less than 10 to go. Drellos was able to take the lead on lap 43 of the 50-lap feature, but Pinkerous was able to grab it back on lap 45. However, a caution came out on 45 for an incident between the two drivers that saw them both eliminated from competition and allowed Mason Zeigler to inherit the lead and eventually go on to take home the $10,000 to-win paycheck.
Pinkerous addressed his performance as well as the incident with Drellos in a video to Facebook. He said, “Overall, really good night. We set quick time, won our heat race, started 5th in the feature. Was 50 laps. The first 30 I really tried to conserve and save our stuff. And thankfully, came around. Had a really nice move around Zeigler there. And just got to hard racing with another guy and stuff didn’t go our way and we ended up getting taken out of the race.”
“It’s just hard racing, you know,” he continued. “Stuff’s going to happen. I just hope this doesn’t affect us down the road with anyone else. We just had a really good night and this is pry one of the best nights of racing I’ve ever had. We took the lead around Lap 30 and we lead to like Lap 45 and we had it going. Just sucks, man. It just sucks.”
The DirtonDirt.com report indicated that “Drellos was later disqualified and moved to 19th in the final rundown after apparent retaliation under the race’s final stoppage.”
