High Limit Racing and Port Royal Speedway announced that they have postponed the $100,000 to-win Bob Weikert Memorial scheduled for May 22-24 to July 25-26.
In a press release, High Limit Racing explained, “After continued monitoring of weather forecasts calling for significant rain and unfavorable low temperatures throughout the holiday weekend, all parties involved agreed that cancellation was the best course of action after evaluating the overall impact and costs for fans, race teams, traveling series personnel, and the speedway itself.”
“The Bob Weikert Memorial has become one of the biggest and most anticipated sprint car events in the country, so this is certainly not a decision anyone wanted to make,” said the Port Royal Speedway team. “However, the weather outlook for precipitation and temperatures throughout the weekend is simply not conducive to putting on an event of this magnitude. We felt making an early decision was the right thing to do for our fans, teams, partners, and everyone traveling to be part of the weekend.”
While they will not be racing this weekend, the race will be postponed to July 25-26. On July 25, there will be a full program paying $10,000 to the winner and then the finale on the 26th will pay $100,000 to win.
However, there is a caveat, the $100,000 to-win purse will only be paid out if the July 25th event is completed. The press released explained, “Track officials noted that the July 26th event will only pay the full $100,000-to-win purse if the July 25th program is successfully completed. Should the July 25th event be unable to be completed, the July 26th race will be contested on a reduced purse structure that will be announced at a later date.”
With the races at Port Royal being postponed this weekend, next up for High Limit Racing is a trip to Indiana and Michigan. On May 29th, the series will head to Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg, Indiana for the Driven2SaveLives Battle at the ‘Burg. On May 30th, it will travel to Butler Motor Speedway in Quincy, Michigan for the Mace Thomas Classic.
After winning at Grandview on Tuesday night, Aaron Reutzel has a 33-point lead over second place Rico Abreu in the points championship. The rest of the top five includes Tanner Thorson, Giovanni Scelzi, and Kerry Madsen. Tyler Courtney, Justin Peck, Daison Pursley, Sye Lynch, and Brent Marks round out the top 10.
