The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series fined Big Game Motorsports and David Gravel $2,000 for not meeting the obligations for a mandatory appearance that is part of the Outlaw’s Platinum Membership Agreement.

In its penalty report, the Outlaws stated, “The team failed to meet the obligations of a mandatory appearance on Thursday, May 7, as outlined in the agreement, with the team and car not in attendance, and has been fined $2,000 for the violation.”

The specific rule in question states that the team owner and driver “cooperate by attending other Series sponsor events/appearances, meet and greets, television and internet/interactive features and other appearances from time to time whenever reasonably possible.”

The series was in attendance at a fan meet-and-greet event at Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey, Pennsylvania from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday, May 7th ahead of the Morgan Cup at Williams Grove Speedway that took place on May 8th and 9th. Gravel finished third on the 8th and then went on to win the race and the Cup for the Outlaws in their showdown against the PA Posse on the 9th.

Gravel was in attendance at the event and spoke highly of it to Fox43, “I think a lot of people in racing love the opportunity to teach this new generation of kids trades, to work with their hands and work in shop class. “t’s pretty rare for schools to have things like this. I definitely like to support these kids who want to love cars and enjoy working on cars because there’s a big need in the world for it.”

He added, “They’ve supported the World of Outlaws, and we’ve supported them for several years now. It’s a big turnout. You get all the kids that come to school here and then you get the public afterward, so it’s a big event.”

While Gravel was in attendance, Justin Fiedler at Dirtrackr reported over a week ago that his car was not there and he would likely receive a fine for that. Fiedler shared on May 12th, “First, Gravel was in attendance last week at the event, taking part in activities with students at the school and participating in media activities. His Big Game Motorsports number two sprint car though was not at the event. …  If the series does indeed decide to levy some sort of penalty against Gravel and Big Game, my assumption here would it be a fine.”
