Max Blair shared that he swapped out his engine following the feature for the Cowboy Classic at Lucas Oil Speedway getting rained out.
Blair shared in a post to Facebook that he made the swap and received help from Ricky Thornton Jr. and the Koehler Motorsports team. He wrote, “We ended up swapping motors lastnight after the rain out. More of a precaution. Something just seemed a little off. Wanted to be safe.”
“But wanna give a big thank you to the whole Koehler Motorsports team for the help. It was raining and shitty the entire time. Really appreciate it,” he added. “Looking forward to tonight ! Hopefully we can put the car covers away for a day.”
While Blair indicated he felt something was off the with the engine, he had solid speed in qualifying and during his heat race. One of his big problems earlier in the season especially during Speedweeks was qualifying where he would find himself mired back in the teens. That put him behind in the heat races and in a number of cases would see him having to race his way in through a B-Main.
However, his qualifying significantly improved at the end of April and throughout the month of May so far. And last night was no different. He qualified fifth in Group B with a time of 15.549. He was only two tenths off Jonathan Davenport’s fast time in Group B of 15.347. The others to best him were Garrett Alberson, Bobby Pierce, and Hudson O’Neal.
The fifth place qualifying set him up for a second place starting spot in Heat 5 and that’s where he finished. He’ll start 10th in the feature that is expected to take place following a full program for the Tribute to Don & Billie Gibson that will begin 30 minutes early at 6:00 PM local time.
Blair is currently 6th in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series standings. He’s 295 points behind current leader Hudson O’Neal, but currently has the same amount of points as fifth place Brandon Overton and is only 45 points behind fourth place Ricky Thornton Jr.
