Cooney Motorsports and Ryan Gustin will not be leaving Infinity Chassis after they competed in a Longhorn Chassis in two MARS events this weekend at Davenport and Fairbury.
The team has been running an Infinity Chassis on the World of Outlaws Late Model campaign and most recently competed in one at the last Outlaw race at Bedford Speedway. In fact, he won the Dairyland Showdown back at the beginning of month in his Infinity Chassis and then followed that up with a second place finish at Georgetown. He clicked off a 6th at Selinsgrove and then an 8th at Bedford.
However, the team was in a Longhorn Chassis this past weekend where they finished fourth at Davenport Speedway and then DNF’d at Fairbury Speedway and ultimately finished 20th. The team shared in an update following the race at Davenport, “Our Karl Chevrolet-back No.19R, powered by Jay Dickens Racing Engines and supported by Hoker Trucking & Custom Fabricating & Repair, Inc captured a fourth-place finish last night at Davenport Speedway with the MARS Series!”
Interestingly, the post also thanked their sponsors and included Infinity Chassis, not Longhorn Chassis.
Similarly in a post explaining the DNF at Fairbury, which resulted from mud getting “packed into the right rear tire, causing the wheel cover to cave in,” the team thanked Infinity Chassis while clearly displaying the Longhorn Chassis name and brand on the spoiler in a photo taken by Josh James.
The reason why they’re still thanking Infinity Chassis is because they do not plan on leaving Infinity Chassis. Cooney Motorsports informed StockCarReport.com that they “will be running both cars.”
Gustin and Cooney Motorsports are no strangers to a Longhorn Chassis. The team competed in one prepared by Wells briefly back at the beginning of 2024 before making the switch to the Infinity Chassis after Speedweeks. In a press release announcing Gustin joining Todd Cooney Racing for the 2024 season, the team stated, “Gustin will pilot the Todd Cooney Racing No.19R Longhorn Chassis by Wells sponsored by Alan’s Seamless Gutters and May Properties with a Jay Dickens racing engine.”
Gustin and the Cooney Motorsports team are back in action with the World of Outlaws Late Models this week. First up is the postponed Connor Bobik Memorial at Marion Center Raceway on Wednesday, May 27th. He’ll then head to Wayne County Speedway on Thursday, May 28th for the Lonewolf 40. Finally, he’ll close out the weekend for the Blaster 57 Special at Mansfield Speedway that takes place on Friday and Saturday. The Saturday show pays $57,000 to the winner.
