Chris Ferguson playfully lobbied for a pair of wild card entries for the 1st Annual Shale Crescent Dirt Cup at Muskingum County Speedway, an invite-only race that will pit the best of the World of Outlaws Late Models versus the best of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

Following this weekend’s running of the Show-Me 100, the top 12 drivers from the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series locked themselves into the June 10th event. The track shared in a post to Facebook that those drivers include: Hudson O’Neal, Ricky Thornton Jr., Devin Moran, Brandon Overton, Max Blair, Garrett Alberson, Brian Shirley, Josh Rice, Kyle Bronson, Clay Harris, and Carson Ferguson.

The World of Outlaws Late Models have not been set yet as the series still has a full week of racing that includes stops at Marion Center Raceway, Wayne County Speedway, and a double header at Mansfield for the 57 Special. Heading into this week the top 12 currently include: Nick Hoffman, Bobby Pierce, Tim McCreadie, Ryan Gustin, Tyler Erb, Drake Troutman, Ethan Dotson, Daulton Wilson, Dustin Sorensen, Trey Mills, Dennis Erb Jr., and Tristan Chamberlain.

However the battle for the final spot is close. Chamberlain only has a 9 point advantage over Brent Larson. Logan Zarin is also in the hunt. He’s just 22 points behind Chamberlain.

While the event is pitched as a battle between the best of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and the World of Outlaws Late Models, Chris Ferguson threw his hat in the ring with a cheeky comment writing in a comment, “Can’t wait to show up as one of the two wild cards that no one knows about!”

Ferguson is one of the top drivers in the country. He showed that during the Show-Me 100 weekend where he clicked off two podium finishes in the Tribute to Don and Billie Gibson and the Cowboy Classic preliminary races where he finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. He followed that up with a respectable 9th place finish in the Show-Me 100.

He’s also had top 10 speed when he’s run with the World of Outlaws throughout the year. He debuted with the series in Tennessee back in March where he put together two 7th place finishes at Volunteer Speedway and Smoky Mountain Speedway. He had a rough go of it due to mechanical issues at stops at East Alabama and Senoia with the Outlaws and Florence with Lucas but he was running right around the top 10 in all of those races.

Back in December, promoter Tristin Moran shared that the idea of the event is to be something similar to the Ryder Cup. He explained, “We’ve got a pretty good chunk of money that are we going to give to every single driver to show up to the facility. … If anyone knows anything about golf, Ryder Cup is kind of what we’re playing off of. So it is going to be a true test of which series is better.”

As for the purse, he shared, “So the total purse is going to be probably $20,000 to-win, $2,000 to start. But total money we’re looking at about $200,000 in total payout.”

As for the Ryder Cup format, he explained in a video post to Facebook, “We’re kind of playing off the Ryder Cup. So there will be points available all night of racing from qualifying all the way to the feature. We’re looking at a pretty normal format. We don’t want to get too crazy the first year. We want to make sure it works. Make sure that the logistic side of points and everything works ’cause we just don’t know what it’s going to be. We have some different ideas.”

“One cool thing that we’re going to do is we’re going to do an all-access pass: $45 gets you in the gate. That is go into the pits, go into the grandstands, go wherever you want. So we’re going to try that. All-access pass,” he concluded.
