Buddy Kofoid was supremely confident ahead of the Dash at Huset’s Speedway on Memorial Day ahead of the finale for the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series’ Stars and Stripes Salute.
Despite drawing the 8-pill, Kofoid was asked about the $100,000 bounty that was put up by Huset’s Speedway track owner Tod Quiring. The Outlaws announced the bounty during the race and on social media revealing that if any non-Outlaw team wins the High Bank Nationals finale that will take place on June 20th they will pocket an extra $100,000 on top of the already monstrous $300,000 to-win feature bringing the total payday to $400,000.
DirtVision’s Conner Wade asked Kofoid about the bounty, who had a very simple reply, “I wish Tod would just put a bounty on me.” Wade reacted saying, “It’s basically the same thing.”
The reason being is that Kofoid has dominated at Huset’s since 2024 when the Outlaws are at the track. Of the 10 trips to the track since 2024, Kofoid has won half of them. He’s been even more dominant if you just look at 2025 and 2026 so far. He’s won 4 of 6 races with the only other winners being Kyle Larson during the first night of the High Bank Nationals in 2025 and Bill Balog on Night 3. Kofoid won the rest.
In 2024, Tyler Courtney, Sheldon Haudenschild, and Carson Macedo won the prelim nights at the track, but it was Kofoid who won the finale.
2026 looks no different. Even with a poor qualifying effort on Monday night, Kofoid blitzed the field in his heat race and went from sixth to second locking himself into the Dash redraw. He drew poorly, but was able to advance one position in the Dash to 7th and start the feature on the bottom. During the feature he quickly began working his way to the front and was already up to fifth just 4 laps in. By lap 7 he was in third. He dove underneath Donny Schatz on lap 11 and took the second position. Two laps later and he was challenging Aaron Reutzel for the lead. He drove underneath Reutzel through turns 1 and 2 and had the lead on lap 13. He then checked out and never looked back winning by nearly 4 seconds.
It is unclear if the bounty will attract any big name non-Outlaws to the race given it’s going head-to-head with the NARC sanctioned Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway in Burlington, Washington. NARC is co-owned by Brad Sweet, who also co-owns High Limit Racing with Kyle Larson.
DIRTRACKR aka Justin Fiedler shared that Aaron Reutzel, James McFadden, Sweet, and Rico Abreu are planning to race at Skagit. He also does not believe that the bounty will sway people to head to Huset’s. He explained, “My initial thought is no, because an extra $100,000 is amazing — do not get me wrong — but it’s not guaranteed. And I wouldn’t be surprised if Skagit and Kevin Rudeen weren’t helping some of those High Limit teams out with some tow money to make the trip all the way to Washington.”
Additionally, he shared that if promoters want to attract drivers and get more car counts, it might be more beneficial to increase the winnings throughout the field rather than just for the winner, “We see it all across dirt racing all the time where promoters pump up the top of those purses and expect it to lead to car counts, but if you really want to see what works, look at the Knoxville Nationals: $15,000 to just start the feature event on Saturday night while fifth in the B-Main is $10,000. You can miss the feature transfer at the Knoxville Nationals and earn just about as much money as a standard Outlaw or High Limit show pays to win. That’s why it consistently draws a 100 cars every single year.”
