Tanner Thorson shared that he takes “full responsibility” for the wreck involving Aaron Reutzel during the High Limit Racing series race at Lawrenceburg.

With 9 laps left in the feature, Thorson peaked to the inside of Reutzel and then threw a slider right into the side of Reutzel. The contact sent Reutzel bouncing up the track and hard into the outside wall. Once he made contact with the wall, he did a complete 180. The car then bounced on its side, popped up in the air on its back wheels and came back down facing forward.

The wreck ended Reutzel’s night and he was not happy with Thorson as he shouted at Thorson from the track while THorson stayed in his car.

Thorson issued a statement following the race accepting full responsibility for the wreck and explaining what happened from his point of view. First he wrote, “Had a great car tonight but got a run and misjudged it, hate it for Reutzels team and ours. No one wants to take themselves out along with anyone else. Onto Butler.”

In a second post, he added, “I take full responsibility for what happened! Sorry to the 87 boys! Not many people I respect in the pits more than them!”

He then explained, “Lost sight of him in center of corner and didn’t see him until we came together! That’s the tough part of racing! And I’ve been on both ends, so has everyone in the pits! Rebuild, Regroup, and try again!”

Reutzel ended up finishing in 22nd with the DNF while Thorson was able to repair his vehicle and salvage a 16th place finish. Rico Abreu went on to win in dominate fashion and took control of the High Limit Racing points lead. He now has a 15-point advantage over Reutzel. Thorson fell back to fourth with Giovanni Scelzi finishing just outside the podium in fourth. Scelzi is 39 points behind Abreu in third while Thorson is 46 points back.

Abreu commented on the win in victory lane, “These wins get emotional because they’re so hard to get. It’s a real dream come true for me to be able to race in front of such amazing fans. Our sport’s unbelievable right now.”

Aside from the wreck between Reutzel and Thorson, Kyle Larson put on a magnificent show as he suffered a flat tire early in the race, had to go to the back, was involved in a couple of spins and then rallied to finish 2nd including passing both Parker Price Miller and Scelzi on the final lap of the race.

Larson shared how he was able to make such a fantastic run in his post-race interview with FloRacing, “A really, really good car. I love this track too. It was finally opening up above the cushion and I could build big runs on the back stretch and slide people in 3 and 4. So made up a lot of ground doing that.”

The series is back in action tomorrow night at Butler Speedway in Quincy, Michigan.
