Devin Moran used his second place podium interview to call out the World of Outlaws competitors who chose not to compete at Muskingum County Speedway with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
Moran looked like he might be poised to win as Hudson O’Neal began to fade in the closing laps and Moran had finally found a way past Clay Harris after stalking him for much of the race. However, Max Blair ran down the top trio from over six seconds back and blew right past them in the final 10 laps of the race. Blair would take control of the lead and survive a couple of late race cautions to get the win while Moran settled for second.
In his podium interview, Moran called out World of Outlaw drivers, “Bummer all them guys chickened out and didn’t come race with us, but I guess all the Outlaw guys saw what happened last time we were here other than Bobby and Nick. Wish they could’ve been here, but missed out on a good race and a good weekend.”
It’s unclear exactly who Moran is calling out. However, multiple drivers that competed with the World of Outlaws on their northern swing were at Mansfield, but chose not to compete at Muskingum County. Those drivers include Jonathan Davenport, Nick Hoffman, Tyler Erb, Ross Robinson, and Tim McCreadie. Other Outlaw drivers decided to compete elsewhere. Daulton Wilson attempted to compete at I-75 on Friday, but it was rained out. Ethan Dotson and Trey Mills ran with the Summer Nationals on Thursday at Lincoln. Tristan Chamberlain ran at Mudlick Valley on the fourth. Other teams simply took the weekend off from racing such as Bobby Pierce, Ryan Gustin, Dennis Erb Jr., Dustin Sorensen, Brent Larson, and Eli Johnson.
Davenport and Erb posted to social media indicating that they were not going to compete at Muskingum due to a poor weather outlook. Jonathan Davenport and his team shared on Facebook, “Jonathan Davenport and Double L Motorsports will NOT be at Muskingum County Speedway on Saturday, July 4. With the weather forecast at race time looking iffy, JD will instead head back home to spend the Independence Day holiday with family.”
Similarly, Tyler Erb shared, “We will NOT be at Muskingum do to an unfavorable looking forecast… We’re sorry to all the fans who planned on coming out.”
As for Nick Hoffman he posted, “Rained out last night at Mansfield. I just landed back in Charlotte to spend the 4th with the family. We will be back in action Wednesday at Stateline!”
McCreadie and Robinson did not share an update to social media on why they were not at Muskingum. The lone Outlaw driver who did make the haul to Muskingum was Logan Zarin. He ended up finishing in sixth, his best ever finish with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
Not only is it unclear who Moran is calling out, but it’s also possible he’s trying to build up the rivalry between the Outlaws and the Lucas Oil series for the next Shale Crescent Dirt Cup. Nevertheless, he called them out. It will be interesting to see if anyone responds and what they will have to say.
