At the end of June, the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series announced that driver Emerson Axsom had been fined and put on probation following an off-track physical altercation that took place prior to the Driver’s Meeting at Cedar Lake Speedway on June 27th.

The series shared in a penalty report, “Axsom, who drives the No. 27 Sprint Car for Klaasmeyer/Petry Motorsports, was involved in an off-track incident that resulted in physical contact prior to the event’s Driver’s Meeting.”

The series noted that he violated Section 7, Paragraph F of its rulebook, which states, “Any member and/or participant involved in an altercation that results in physical contact will be subject to penalty and/or disqualification and/or fine and/or suspension and/or legal action and/or any other action deemed appropriate by World Racing Group Supervisory Officials.”

He was fined $500 and put on probation for the remainder of the season.

During the Friday night feature at Cedar Lake on June 26th, Axsom and Kasey Jedrzejek were involved in an on-track incident while racing for 9th on lap 23 that brought out a caution. World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series announcer Johnny Gibson shared, “Emerson Axsom and Kasey Jedrzejek, two Rookie of the Year contenders, got into it over there in corner number 4.”

A replay seemed to show Jedrezejek attempting to dive underneath Axsom, but got into the side of him again with both cars spinning sideways up the track. Fortunately, both drivers were able to collect their cars and continue albeit drawing the caution.

Following the spin, video from DIRTVision showed Axsom expressing his displeasure with Jedrezejek as he ran him up the track albeit without making contact while under the caution. He then appeared to try to brake check him as well as he pulled in front of him. Jedrzejek then went underneath him and revved his engine expressing his own displeasure.

Axsom would eventually finish 14th after starting 10th while Jedrzejek finished 11th after starting 21st.

On the most recent episode of DIRTVision’s Pitbull, Conner Wade, who is the pit reporter for the World of Outlaws Sprint Car series as well as one of the show’s co-hosts, shared what happened ahead of the driver’s meeting that led to the fine and probationary status for Axsom.

He said, “At the Driver’s Meeting on Saturday, they walked up and Kasey was standing there talking to Garet Williamson. And Emerson came up and was frustrated about the night before and was kinda running his mouth and I don’t know that Kasey really jawed back at him, I think Kasey was like, ‘Yeah, like whatever. Whatever you think. It is what it is.’ They just got mad at each other. And some physical contact was made. I think Emerson kinda initiated that. And then somebody came in and broke it up.”

“I just don’t see it as a huge deal,” Wade added. “Two kids that were frustrated with each other and got into a little scrimmage in the pits that, honestly, from what I understand lasted like 10 seconds and everybody had broken it up.”
