Aaron Reutzel came home second behind Rico Abreu at Saturday night’s Skagit Nationals and spoke about the massive wreck he was involved in with Trey Starks.

With 9 laps left in the race, Reutzel got a run up on the top side of the track as he closed in on both Starks, who was running in third, and Tanner Thorson, who was in second. As they exited turn 2, Starks was on the bottom, Thorson was in the middle, and Reutzel was up at the top against the cushion. As they went down the back stretch, Starks came up the track while Reutzel came slightly down. The two made contact with Starks spinning off the front bumper of Reutzel and into the outside wall.

After hitting the outside wall, Starks briefly rode the wall before he began flipping end over end until he came down hard on the outside wall and into the catch fence.

After exiting his car, Starks was not happy with Reutzel and shared his feelings with FloRacing’s Tony LaPorta, “I’m feeling good. Sucks we got a tore up race car. I felt like we had a shot to win that thing. It’s a long race. I’d have to see the replay, but I’m pretty sure we got freaking junked.”

He then watched the replay and said, “Oh, we got absolutely destroyed by the driver that wrecks more [crap] than anybody. That’s un[freaking] believable.”

From there, Starks walked over to Reutzel’s stopped car and shouted at him from the infield, “I will junk your [crap] every single [freaking] time. Every [freaking] time, you no good piece of [crap].”

After a lengthy fence repair when the race returned to green, Reutzel was able to get by Thorson after the two traded sliders for a couple of laps. He then attempted to reel in Abreu, but simply did not have enough time.

In his podium interview, Reutzel addressed the wreck with Starks saying, “I had a big run off the top and he swerved across the race track. And I didn’t think no way he would come swerving that high up. I was going to commit to his outside, but-.”

In response to the crowd booing him, Reutzel said, “Hey, it was alright when he crashed me three years ago, but I didn’t forget that either.”

Reutzel had a solid showing at Skagit with two 2nd place finishes and a fifth. Unfortunately, the guy he’s chasing in the High Limit Racing points standings was better. Rico Abreu won on Saturday night after finishing 2nd and 3rd in the preliminaries. Abreu now has a 46 point advantage over Reutzel.

High Limit Racing heads back east to Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pennsylvania for the Tuscarora 50. Racing action begins on Thursday, September 10th and runs through Saturday, September 12th where it concludes with the Tuscarora 50.
