The Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series points leader Ashton Winger did not compete in his heat race at Tazewell and then start and parked the feature.

During the Hunt the Front TV broadcast of the race, pit reporter Chase Shaffer shared an update on Winger after a multicar wreck early in the race. He said, “Ashton Winger pulled in early as well … pulled in to save his equipment.”

Winger shared additional details on why he decided to park telling StockCarReport.com, “I care about my car owner and his money/equipment. It mad more financial sense to start & park considering the amount of points I’ve lost due to luckily not having hardly any bad luck to this point and have two drop races in effect.”

Additionally, he shared that it was his intention to start and park before he even arrived at Tazewell, “It was the plan from the time it was announced at the drivers meeting at Duck River on Saturday.”

As Winger noted The Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series announced that its originally scheduled race at Sugar Creek Raceway was being replaced with the Jeff Wolfenbarger Memorial at Tazewell. The series shared at the time that Sugar Creek canceled “due to scheduling conflicts with major community events take place near [the track] that weekend.”

Sugar Creek Raceway explained the decision to cancel in a Facebook post, ““Hosting an event of this magnitude is a significant financial commitment. With the opening night of area rival high school football and the annual Kiwanis Rodeo in Blue Ridge taking place the same evening we had to make a decision. Although not an easy choice, we feel this is the most responsible decision for the future of Sugar Creek Raceway.”

Furthermore, as Winger also pointed out, the series allows drivers to drop their two worst points events. The rule specifically states, “During the 2026 season, each driver will drop their two (2) worst points events, including absences, from their final championship points total. A driver may miss up to two (2) points events and still remain in good standing with the series.”

Winger ended up finishing in 23rd after the start and park. He is still in control of the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series points standings with 860 points. His worst finishes are this 23rd at Tazewell and an 11th at the Talladega Short Track. He has a 66 point advantage over Tazewell race winner Dalton Cook. Joseph Joiner, who finished second, is 86 points behind.

As for his plan for tomorrow night at Smoky Mountain Speedway, Winger shared, “Try to win and not piss anyone off 🤣.”
