Nothing can stop Kyler Johnson’s happiness throughout the Summer of 2026.
The 22-year-old racer has seen career-defining heights through the first half of August, including his first American Sprint Car Series triumph on the National Tour and his first start in the Saturday finale of the Xtream powered by Mediacom 360 Knoxville Nationals pres. by Great Southern Bank.
In addition to his accomplishments on track, there’s even more excitement in his life off the track. He and his wife, Chalea, are expecting their first child before the end of the month. The arrival of his daughter will create a new work/life balance for Johnson, but he’s ready for it.
“It’s definitely been hectic, but we’ve been prepared for a while,” Johnson said. “We’re ready to go; we’ll continue to be on the road with ASCS in the years to come, and we’re looking forward to giving our daughter the best life possible. We’re more than excited to see how this next chapter goes.”

The month started with Johnson visiting Viking Speedway for the first time with the American Sprint Car Series. Despite it being his debut at the 1/2-mile dirt track, he had speed from the drop of the first green flag. The Quinter, KS native set Quick Time and then bested Austyn Gossel and Seth Bergman to end a 124-winless streak.
“I knew we were gonna be pretty competitive from just feeling the soil,” Johnson said. “It was a very sandy soil, like what I have around home. It was also a bigger track that you really had to keep up your momentum in the high-banked corners. It really fit my driving style; just everything about it made me feel at home in a sense.
“We unloaded really fast. We were able to go Quick Time, made the redraw and drew the four. I knew we had to get going because Seth was beside us and Sam was going to be coming from behind us. I wanted to get the lead as quickly as I could, tried to set a fast pace to just get out of there and hide, in a sense. It was great to finally get the job done, and it was a great confidence booster that we can carry on.”
Fresh off his Viking win, Johnson went back to work the following morning to prepare for the biggest 360 Sprint Car event of the season at Knoxville Raceway. In his fourth appearance at the “Sprint Car Capital of the World” crown jewel, Johnson earned his first prelim Feature start on Friday and squeezed into the final lock-in spot for his Saturday A-Main debut at 360 Nationals.
“We were joking after we found out we were locked in that winning (at Viking) felt great, but it almost felt better knowing we were locked into the 360 Nationals,” Johnson said. “I feel like that feat is almost harder in a sense with the caliber of cars that go there now. We definitely had really good speed early, and we proved that.
“We just need a lot more laps at Knoxville to really be competitive when it’s Feature time. With the dirty air, really knowing how to run the bottom and not hit the berm, we definitely got our butts kicked on Saturday. But that goes back to getting more seat time at the track, getting more comfortable, and adjusting the setup a little bit to get faster there. We were in a different league compared to the others; for every two perfect laps I’d hit, I’d have three bad laps. Being able to make consistent laps there was the biggest struggle.”
With two of Johnson’s primary goals of the 2026 season completed, he’ll hunt for a second career win at Riverside International Speedway for the King of the Ditch II. Johnson’s last run at a 1/4-mile bullring with the Series was a fifth-place result at Texarkana 67 Speedway in July.
“‘The Ditch’ could go either way for us,” Johnson admitted. “We’ve really been 50/50 on 1/4-miles as of late. If we can hit it good, we could have a pretty strong showing there. We’ve only been there once, but we ended up ripping the banners down in Turn 4. It wasn’t a great experience for us, but we’ll be looking forward to trying some of this new stuff that we’ve learned in the last couple weeks and continue to build on that.”
Through every race, Johnson is surrounded by family support with his brother and crew chief, Kahne, and Chalea spending time at the track. Sharing the career-defining achievements and the ones to come with his family is special for Johnson, as a plethora of bright spots have highlighted the team’s story in 2026.
“I wouldn’t want to share these experiences with anyone else besides them,” Johnson said. “It’s good and bad at the same time. They’re your biggest cheerleaders, and then they’re also your biggest critics. Whenever I have a bad night, it’s a different feeling because they’re family and they can be mad at you. The whole morale of the team stays up, but it was really cool for both my parents to be at Knoxville and cool to share that with them and have my dad back at the track for sure.”
Johnson will keep up with the 2026 ASCS National Tour campaign for a trip to West Memphis, AR for the King of the Ditch II at Riverside on Saturday, Aug. 22.
