It appeared that Benji Hicks might be packing up his bags and heading home after a massive wreck at Eldora Speedway during his heat race on Thursday’s preliminary night for the Dirt Late Model Dream. However, Hicks and his team have reportedly rolled out the backup and will compete on Saturday night.

Following a restart in Heat 2, Hicks drove it in deep through three and exited high off of four battling for the fifth and final transfer spot. As he went into turn 1, Tyler Erb made hard contact with the side of Hicks’ car and sent him flying up the track and hard into the outside wall. He then got hit by Greg Williams, who was attempting to avoid him.

In a now deleted post to Facebook, Hicks vowed that Erb had an IOU coming his way.

In the comments on the post, he also indicated that he had a backup car, but didn’t want to tear it up coming from the rear.

However, plans have changed. A source informed StockCarReport.com that Hicks pulled out the backup car and was getting it prepared to compete in the Dream on Saturday night.

Additionally, Hicks informed dirt late model insider Racin’ Jason that he will be ready for tomorrow’s heat races.

Hicks will have his work cut out for him on Saturday night as his preliminary night was cut short resulting in only being able to obtain 147 points, which places him 42nd out of 44 cars and likely at the very back of one of the heat races for Saturday.

Nevertheless, it appears Hicks will aim to showcase that famous southern grit as he will attempt to mount a challenge from deep in a heat to try and make the 32nd Annual Dirt Late Model Dream.
