Bobby Pierce saw his chances of sweeping the Dream and the World 100 in the same year go up in smoke during his heat race.
Amid a tough battle for the third and final transfer spot with Drake Troutman, Pierce’s car erupted in smoke with six laps left.

Pierce spoke with StockCarReport.com and shared more details on what he believes might have happened that led to the failure, “I don’t know for sure yet, I’d be making assumptions, could be valve, could be something else among other things.”
“It just sucks,” he added. “Unfortunate weekend all around. I feel like we were constantly just chasing something, right? We broke on Thursday, then a deck height infraction on Friday, which didn’t really affect us all that bad. It actually, honestly, gave me a better starting spot for the heat race today, but then got stuck in the hammer down heat race, in the second one. Just stuff happens. There’s always next year, right?”
Due to the engine failures, Pierce shared he is unsure if he will head to the Knoxville Late Model Nationals with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
“I don’t know now. This very well changes our plans because not only is it two blown motors, it’s two oil systems as well. That’s just a lot to do and we got to race the Flo night on Tuesday at LaSalle. So I highly doubt it if we’ll make it to Knoxville.”
Despite the failures, Pierce has full trust in his Vic Hill engine program, “I’ve had really good luck or success and everything with Vic Hill. I don’t think there’s a smarter engine builder out there.”
“It kinda got off on the wrong foot to start with when the motor we planned to run broke,” Pierce continued. “‘Cause this motor here that I was running, it just wasn’t enough for how hammer down the heat race was. So you run into more issues when stuff like that happens.”
“Vic’s really smart,” he added. “I’ve won lots of big races with him. We’ll just come back to the drawing board if we have to. See what we got to do differently. We’ll be back with Vic Hills next time.”
