Brenham Crouch apologized for the Lap 1 wreck at Eldora Speedway during the Knight Before the Kings Royal race on early Saturday morning.

Before they even got to the first corner, Crouch was a little squirrely on the start and came down and made contact with Carson Macedo. He then appeared to significantly slow heading into the first turn. Macedo was not expecting it and ran into the back of him. That created a chain reaction that collected Kerry Madsen, Buddy Kofoid, Spencer Bayston, and Sye Lynch.

Speaking to DIRTVision’s Conner Wade, Carson Macedo commented on the wreck, “I run up on the back of him. I don’t know if he like lifted for some reason 3/4 of the way down the straightaway or halfway down the straightaway. I don’t know. I got to go back and watch the video. I’m not really 100% sure.”

He was then shown a replay on the board and said, “He’s crossing sideways off the corner and then he lifts right there like 3/4 of the way down the straightaway and I-. I don’t know how you anticipate that. We’re going down the straightaway. I really don’t know.”

Macedo’s team went to work in the hot pit was able to get his car repaired enough to return. At the end of the night, he salvaged a 14th place finish.

Madsen would also comment on the wreck telling DIRTVision’s Peyton Williams, “Obviously, frustrating. I actually got a pretty reasonable start. It was a little greasy coming down the straightaway. So something must have happened in front of Carson. I couldn’t tell. Someone got sideways or something. Just nowhere to go. Hopefully, our car’s not too badly damaged. I don’t think we’ll get back out. Disappointing. You just want to try and get through the first corner. And what do you do? It’s racing.”

Crouch issued an apology in an interview with Always Race Day, “First off, I just really do, I want to genuinely apologize to those behind me. I’m not sure who was involved or what happened. I got caked with mud and couldn’t get to my tear off tab. I thought the safest option was to kinda just hold the wheel straight and get things stopped the best I could. It’s just so heavy and treacherous here right now. It’s very hard to navigate especially with what guys are doing in front of you. This place is hard enough with dirty air. When you tack on that much mile an hour and that many cars on the race track at once it’s very hard to predict what’s going on.”

As for what caused him to pull in shortly after they went green following the red flag stoppage, Crouch shared, “As far as us, I believe we just had a motor tighten up on us. It sucks. It did a really good job for us at the beginning of the night. It just sucks for our team.”
