Brent Larson questioned why the World of Outlaws Late Model Series does not enforce their rough driving rule after the series disqualified Trey Mills following his wreck at Southern Iowa Speedway.

The series disqualified Mills after he wrecked on the back stretch and flipped. It is unclear what caused the wreck, but Derrick Stewart, who was behind Mills when he wrecked shared with DIRTVision, “I think something in his right front broke or the right front tire went down on, it just went right on him into the fence. I didn’t really know which way to go. He hit the fence and then he kinda started making his way down the race track so you just got to try to slow down without causing anymore havoc.”

The series explained in a Facebook comment why Mills was disqualified, “A crew member on the No. 14 team entered the racetrack following the incident, which violates Series rules and resulted in the disqualification.”

A World of Outlaws Late Model Series official confirmed to StockCarReport.com that a crew member entering the racetrack was the reason why Mills was disqualified. As for what the disqualification entails, the official shared, “Everything is the same as it would be if he finished last naturally.” In this case, last was 23rd in the running order. That means he still received $1,000 in start money and 104 championship points.

Larson reacted to StockCarReport’s coverage of the disqualification sharing in a comment on Facebook a screenshot of DIRTcar Racing’s rough driving rule and writing, “This rule  is in the rule book too but they don’t enforce that .. guess it’s just which ever rules they want to enforce .”

The rule specifically states, “Any member and/or participant that attempts to drive roughly and/or hits another competitor unnecessarily will be subject to penalty and/or disqualification and/or fine and/or suspension and/or legal action and/or any other action deemed appropriate by World Racing Group Supervisory Officials.”

Larson’s comment appears to be commentary on Tyler Erb’s retaliation against his son Matthew Larson during Friday night’s heat race at Maquoketa Speedway. During that heat race Erb was sent flying over the berm in turn 1 after contact with Matthew Larson in his heat race. 

On the next restart, Erb targeted Larson for some payback throwing a door at him in turn 1. He then got into the rear of Justin Duty down the back stretch. Larson took advantage of that to drive past both of them. Erb immediately countered by driving into his left front in the middle of 3 and 4.

While Larson questioned why the World of Outlaws Late Model Series were not enforcing their rough driving rule, he also took issue with the disqualification of Mills as well. Larson wrote on Facebook, “Trey Mills dq’d because his crew guys went on the track to check on him..”

In the comments he added, “They threw red about an hour after he hit and no one to check on him.. I watched it happened.”

To be clear, the World of Outlaws Late Model Series has a rule that clearly states, “Any driver, crew member, or team associate that enters the racing surface without express approval from an official are subject to disqualification and/or fine and/or suspension and/or any other action deemed appropriate by World Racing Group Supervisory Officials.”
