Chris Simpson shared in-car video showing his massive collision with Carson Ferguson following a restart during the second preliminary feature for The Dream at Eldora Speedway.
Simpson commented, “For anybody that thinks I could have avoided this.”
The video shows him turning the wheel as hard to the left as he possibly can after he catches sight of Ferguson coming down the track in front of him. It also shows how violent the collision with Ferguson’s car was as his head rattle back and forth in his seat.
The video clearly shows what Simpson states there was no way he could have avoided it. Furthermore, what the in-car camera doesn’t show is that Bobby Pierce clipped Ferguson in the left rear after he flipped. That contact spun Ferguson’s car around so that it was perpendicular to the track and thus made it that much larger of a target for Simpson to hit.
Simpson described the hit as “definitely top 2 one of the hardest hits I’ve ever took.” However, he also noted that he was “alright” but “bruised up pretty bad.”
He will not be competing tonight for The Dream as he shared that “the car is completely JUNK.” In fact, he already left Eldora writing on Facebook, “We are on our way home and will get unloaded and try to find a plan. Thanks again for all that reached out. Gotta thank all the safety equipment Lajoie of seating,Hooker Harness,Simpson Race Products.”
