  Press Release

On Friday night, the Schaeffer’s Oil by Mike Bruner Red Clay 602 Late Model Series ventured to Travelers Rest Speedway for round six of the tour. Chris Woods dominated the entire program at the Travelers Rest, South Carolina speedplant by earning Fast Time honors during qualifying and leading each of the 25 circuits in the main event. The Statham, Georgia ace won by nearly five seconds to pick up the $2,000 first place prize money.

Finishing an impressive runner-up was ninth-starting Nick Deitz, who won with the tour earlier this year at Laurens County Speedway. Biscuit Williams, who started the 25-lapper from the inside of the seventh row, charged past ten competitors to round out the podium in third and earned Hard Charger honors. Series regular Cass Fowler turned in a strong performance in finishing fourth, while Luke Cooper vaulted up to fifth to grab the final position inside of the top five at the unfurling of the checkered flag.

A total of 22 Red Clay 602 Late Model Series entrants piled into the pit area on Friday at Travelers Rest Speedway. Chris Woods laid down the quickest time in both RaceDay Safety Hot Laps (18.502 seconds) and in Knowles Race Parts and Bodies qualifying (17.793 seconds). The entire feature field was set by time trials with polesitter Chris Woods flanked by outside polesitter Dawson Lowe, who topped Group B during the qualifying session.

With the recent announcement that the ‘Shrine Race’ on Tuesday, June 2 at Laurens County Speedway has been postponed until later this Fall, the next Schaeffer’s Oil by Mike Bruner Red Clay 602 Late Model Series showdown will take place on Thursday, June 18 at North Georgia Speedway. Dawson Lowe still sits atop of the latest series point standings heading into the Chatsworth, Georgia oval – a track where he won a similar $2,000 to win program back on April 24.
