Cleetus McFarland and Race DRT announced that McFarland will compete in the 2026 Gateway Dirt Nationals with the Cody Sommer owned team.

McFarland shared in a video to Facebook, “What’s up guys I’m Cleetus McFarland and I’ll be racing at the Gateway Dirt Nationals December 3-5. Come out and see us. See me turn left on dirt. It’ll be my debut so anything can happen.”

The Race DRT team also shared in the post, “We had an awesome time testing, learned a lot and are excited to continue making laps as we prepare for our December 3rd-5th Debut in St Louis at The Dome at America’s Center!”

McFarland shared more details in a YouTube upload where he showcased the testing the team did at East Lincoln Speedway. He also shared the deal was brokered by NASCAR Cup Series driver Carson Hocevar, “Cody hit me up. Actually reached out through Carson Hocevar, who races the event. Carson was like, ‘Dude, you got to come.’ And Cody said, ‘Hey, I own a team, too. I also own the event and I want you to race in my car.”

Not only was McFarland testing at East Lincoln Speedway, but he was being mentored by Chris Ferguson. Ferguson and his Victory Seats company also created a custom America seat for him.

During one portion of the test session, McFarland ran a fast lap of 16.58 seconds. He improved a tenth nearly every single lap before laying down the 16.58 lap. McFarland then got out of the car and watched Ferguson rip a few laps around the track. After Ferguson was done, McFarland said, “We’re basically same lap times.”

McFarland also revealed that before he competes in the Gateway Dirt Nationals he will take part in at least one more test session. Additionally, he suggested that Carson Hocevar test with him, “I’m trying to get Carson to come so that I can run cars with him and pass and do all that stuff. I can see that being dangerous for both of our vehicles, but I got to get a little bit of passing data before I just go.”

Sommer indicated he would work on it, “We’ll line that up next time.”
