Cody Overton Defends Home Turf To Score First Southern Nationals Victory

  Press Release

Cody Overton, of nearby Evans, Georgia, defended his home turf on Thursday night at Modoc Speedway to capture his first career Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by Sunoco triumph! Cody stopped the clock fourth fastest in Group B during the qualifying session, which locked him into the outside of the fourth row for the start of the 42-lap ‘Ken Knight Memorial’ headliner. The driver known as “Lil’ Sexy” marched forward during the first half of the entertaining contest before making the winning pass on leader Joseph Joiner on the twenty-fourth circuit.

In the waning laps, Cody stretched his lead and won by 2.303 seconds to pocket the $7,542 first place prize money. Finishing a strong runner-up was Floridian Joseph Joiner, who started fourth and led laps 11-23 after grabbing the point from early pacesitter Michael Page. Ethan Dotson, of Bakersfield, California, rolled off from the outside of the seventh row and passed eleven competitors to nab the final spot on the podium in third. Sixteenth-starting Donald McIntosh and thirteenth-starting Ben Watkins also charged through the field to post fourth and fifth place finishes respectively.

“I felt like I let one go at Harris (Speedway) the other night with a flat tire,” quoted Overton in Schaeffer’s Oil victory lane. “Tonight just felt different. My car was really good and I knew it all night. Just kinda messed up in qualifying and worked on it from there. I knew before we went out for the feature that I was going to be OK, but I knew Garrett Smith was still going to be pretty good too. This is right up Michael Page’s alley too, so I knew he was going to be good. Hey, it worked out for me!”

Cody Overton steered a Triple B Motorsports #97 Longhorn Chassis powered by a Clements Racing Engine with sponsorship in part from Collins Brothers Towing, Budweiser, M&M Painting & Construction, Code Red Rentals & Sales, Granite Grading & Hauling, The Kicklighter Company, M&S Concrete, S&S Fishing & Rental, MECO of Augusta, Tribble Electric, Morley Enterprises, Supply Chain Management, Larussa Plumbing, Boswell Oil Company, and Bilstein Shocks.

A total of 29 Super Late Model competitors rolled into the refurbished Modoc, South Carolina facility for round three of the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series. Cody Overton was fast right off the trailer by posting the quickest lap overall during MRP Fantasy Racing hot laps, while Michael Page earned the pole position by topping the speed chart during FK Rod Ends time trials. The pair of consolation races were won by Landen Zakalowski and Zack Mitchell, while series provisionals were awarded to both Daniel Boles and Mathew Porter.

Next up for the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by Sunoco will be a visit to Swainsboro Raceway in Swainsboro, Georgia on Friday evening, July 17. A $7,553 winner’s check will be up for grabs at the ‘Boro. Zack Mitchell still leads the latest point tally for the series with Donald McIntosh sitting only two markers behind in second. Joseph Joiner, Garrett Smith, and Allen Styck sit third through fifth in the point standings heading into Swainsboro Raceway.
