Dalton Cook and Kyle Strickler both shared their perspectives on what happened during Shootout #4 that resulted in both Strickler and Jadon Frame being done for the night.

On a restart with 8 laps to go, Dalton Cook got a great restart and dove to the inside coming through turn 4 and they were nearly 5-wide with Frame, Nick Hoffman, Strickler, and Michael Leach to his outside. The move worked down the front stretch as Cook got to fifth from seventh.

Heading into turn 1 they were still four-wide with Cook on the bottom and Strickler, Hoffman, and Leach above him. Through the middle of the turn Strickler appeared to drift up to avoid contact from Cook.

Exiting the turn, Strickler attempted to cross Cook over as Cook appeared to struggle coming off the turn. The two made contact with Strickler getting into the left side of Cook. Jadon Frame had nowhere to go and plowed into Strickler’s left side as he slowed. That sent Strickler hard into the outside wall.

Cook spoke to StockCarReport.com about the incident, “To be quite honest with you, we fired off of 4, I had a pretty good run on Jaden and it was just enough room that I could actually squeeze by. I think I did catch my quarter on him a little bit. I was obviously trying not to make any contact, but it was tight.”

“Went off into 1. When you’re pretty much on the bottom with a run you have to carry it off in the corner. You’ve got to commit. … I kind of knew I was racing the guy beside me. I went off into 1 besides Kyle. I kind of seen him at my right door. I kinda thought I was out there landing about middle and I’m just assuming that anybody’s that’s top side they’re going to hit a big run and come back down the hill.”

“Honestly, I thought I was about to get drove by,” he reiterated. “I don’t know the sequence of how we ended up. I never seen nothing, obviously. I thought I got hit in the right rear and ended up being he left side.”

“Obviously, he was mad about it. Car was tore up pretty good. I hate that. I don’t want nobody to be mad. Hell, cost too damn much. I apologize for that. Anything I could’ve done. Just didn’t go well. I don’t want the guy, obviously, to be mad, throwing the steering wheel, but I get the frustration.”

“I think Jaden got tore up a little bit too,” Cook said. “You hate seeing anybody get tore up. You just want to race. But it’s the way this place is: the speed and how big it is and really how crucial everything is points wise. You got to run 110%. But it’s like at what point do we push the envelope? That’s just one of them that’s always debatable at which point that is. We’re just having to race hard, man, and take what we can get.”

Strickler also spoke with StockCarReport about the incident saying, “I was worried about getting a good start and rolling down into 1 and 2 and being able to get into fourth there. It actually surprised me. I think he laid back and got a good run on the start and jumped a row and come in there. I didn’t think he was going to be there, but he came sliding in.”

“I tried to turn down the hill and cross him over and I don’t know if it was air or just when he was sliding across the race track that it just lost momentum, or whatever,” Strickler continued. “But just misjudged, or aero, or whatever it was, but trying to cross him back over my nose got into his left rear tire and it jumped me up into the air and then Jaden Frame had nowhere to go and hooked me in the fence.”

“It was just stupid when we were, all of us, in the show, and I don’t fee like he needed to be driving like that,” Strickler shared.

From there, he asked what Cook’s Juiceman nickname was and said, “I think maybe you want to call me Ron Goldman or Nicole Simpson ’cause I think I got murdered by the Juice.”
