David Gravel has accomplished quite a bit in his Sprint Car Racing career including 145 total 410 Winged wins, back-to-back World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Championships in 2024 and 2025 and a Knoxville Nationals title in 2019. He also has accomplished the Triple Crown winning the Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway in 2024. He had previously won the National Open at Williams Grove in 2014 and 2017 and got the aforementioned Knoxville Nationals win in 2019.

While Gravel’s career is already outstanding, he’s not done by far and is still as hungry as ever. Gravel shared what else he wants to accomplish during a panel appearance at the Knoxville Nationals hosted by The Dirt Parlor. He said, “I’ve been very fortunate. Been able to win all the Crown Jewel races, but the most elite list is the Knoxville Nationals and being a one-time winner is elite, but winning two is-. I think there’s five guys that have done it, maybe six guys. Super, super elite list. You can never have enough. Just ask Donny [Schatz].”

That list is indeed elite and there are eight drivers who have won the Knoxville Nationals more than once. They are Steve Kinser (12), Donny Schatz (11), Doug Wolfgang (5), Kenny Weld (4), Danny Lasoski (4), Kyle Larson (4), Mark Kinser (3), and Eddie Leavitt (2).

Not only does Gravel want to get a second Knoxville Nationals under his belt, but he wants to continue winning no matter where or what it is. He said, “It’s like Outlaw Championships. Or it doesn’t matter what it is: Kings Royals, National Opens. It’s like you win one, ‘Well, cool. This guy won 11. This guy won 6. This guy won 8.’ It’s crazy. One breeds more. It just makes you more hungry to win more because there’s always somebody that won more than you.”

“I could win 30 races for the next 10 years and still won’t even be close to Steve Kinser. You know what I mean? It’s one of those things, it’s just wild,” he said.

Gravel also listed a number of races he hasn’t won at that he would like to, “Gold Cup, I haven’t won, but that’s a High Limit Race. Skagit Nationals is growing. Like when we went out there it never paid big money and now Skagit pays big money. Port Royal, I’ve never won a World of Outlaws race or a Tusky or a Weikert. So definitely one of those would be special, for sure.”

“I’ve been able to win the National Open and the Kings Royal and won some other pretty big races at Eldora as well. The one year of the COVID year, we won a big race there in the JJR car and Lernerville was always one of my favorite track, got to win there. I really miss going there. Hopefully, the World of Outlaws go back there one day. I’ve been really fortunate.”

However, his main goal is to get a second Knoxville Nationals win for his Crew Chief Cody Jacobs and car owner Tod Quiring, “But the number one thing is a Knoxville Nationals for my crew chief and car owner and then to be a two-time winner. That’s definitely number one by far.”
