Devon Borden had one of the better cars last night during the All Star Circuit of Champions Ohio Sprint Speedweek stop at Wayne County Speedway, but when he got to lap traffic he struggled to make his way through and it would result in a huge mistake.

Borden started on the pole with Kalib Henry to his outside and he was able to set a solid pace for the 35-lap feature. However, about five laps in he got to the tail of the field and struggled to get around Logan McCandless, who was running the same line as him, around the top. That allowed Henry to drive underneath him through 1 and 2. Borden would attempt a crossover, but Henry was too strong around the top through 3 and 4.

However, Henry would suffer a flat tire a few laps later and have to go to the work area to get it replaced. That put Borden back to the point on the next restart with 22 to go. Borden took advantage of the situation and would continue to lead with Brandon Spithaler hounding him. As he was working his way through lap traffic, Borden drove to the outside of Cody Bova and then seemingly lost the handle as he got to the inside of Logan McCandless. He went  up the track and made direct contact with McCandless on the exit of turn 4. The contact put McCandless in the wall and he flipped violently end-over-end into the catch fence. After hitting the catch fence he then smashed hard into the guard rail before coming to a stop.

McCandless’ night was ended while Borden was able to get his car back in the race, where he finished 15th.

Following the race, Borden shared, “I screwed my guys tonight had a fast racecar tonight at Wayne County Speedway! Feels good to be running up front! Try again tommorow at Eldora!”

He later added, “On the way to Eldora so got some more time to look at some of this hate 😂 some you’ll act like I tried to do that or something?? The reality is yes I did mess up. But I hit the rut in the middle of the racetrack, got tight, and slid up the track. Not intentional.”

He also flat out said, “I messed up.”

As for McCandless, he was obviously irate following the wreck and gave Borden a share of his thought, but in a post to Facebook, his team described it as a “tough unnecessary hit last night.”

The All Star Circuit of Champions and its Ohio Sprint Speedweek is back in action tonight at Eldora Speedway. Zeth Sabo is currently the miniseries points leader. He has an 8-point advantage over Danny Dietrich and a 12-point advantage over Wayne County Speedway winner Kalib Henry. Parker Price Miller is in fourth, 14 points back and Cap Henry is in fifth, just 22 behind.

Along with tonight’s race at Eldora, the Speedweek still has races at Waynesfield Raceway Park on Thursday, June 18th, Fremont Speedway on June 19th, and the finale at Wayne County Speedway on June 20th.
