At Wayne County Speedway on Monday night for the All Star Circuit of Champions race an incident occurred during the B feature that saw a car strike and injure three spectators in the infield.
In the closing laps of the race, Aiden Price and Chris Myers were in a dog fight for the fourth and final transfer spot. Price attempted to slide Myers, but instead slammed hard into his side. The contact ran Myers into the wall while Price ended up on his side. While this was happening a third car went into the infield and struck three spectators.
The Apple Creek, East Union Township Fire Department shared in a press release that it “responded to an incident … during Ohio Sprint Speed Week at Wayne County Speedway involving a sprint car that left the racing surface and struck spectators located within the infield area of the track.”
“Three spectators sustained injuries as a result of the incident,” the Fire Department continued. “Two patients suffered critical injuries and required advanced medical care. One critically injured patient was transported by Apple Creek Fire Department, while a second critically injured patient was airlifted from the scene by MedFlight. A third patient sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by Orrville Fire Department, who responded to provide mutual aid assistance.”
Ohio Motorsport Photography reported that Kyle Henline was one of the individuals involved in the incident, “Unfortunately, Kyle was hit, he suffered multiple broken bones in his leg, and will require surgery. Thanks for everyone reaching out to check on us. Please keep Kyle in your thoughts and say a prayer for him if that’s your thing.”
