Freddie Carpenter had a little bit of fun with Jonathan Davenport aka Superman announcing that he will not chase the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in 2026.

Carpenter, who announced he’ll chase Rookie of the Year with Lucas Oil this year, shared a video to Facebook where he’s asked what his thoughts are regarding Davenport. He answers, “Well, you know Superman’s greatest weakness: Kryptonite.”

For context, Carpenter is the founder and owner of Kryptonite Racecars based out of Parkersburg, West Virginia. The company originally began as Tru-Tech Customs in 2009 that did chassis repair, fabrication, and more for dirt racers. However, they eventually started to build their own racecars and named the first one Kryptonite because “he believed that he had the secret weapon to compete with the large chassis manufacturers in dirt late model racing.”

The cars have won 4 AMRA National Championships as well as 3 Gibby’s series champions and accumulated hundreds of features wins. In 2017, the team’s house cars had 60 wins, 2 track championships, and 2 series championships.

Davenport announced he would not compete with the Lucas Oil Series at the end of last week. He shared in a post to Facebook, “he #49 team has elected not to follow a national touring series and will instead pick-and-choose where they compete during the course of the season. Jonathan will be in action at crown jewel events across the country, as well as high-profile races in between.”

Davenport specifically stated, “It will be a little different for us not running a series full-time or competing for a Championship, but at the end of the day, we’re still trying to win every time we unload.”

“I am looking forward to being at my son Blane’s fishing tournaments more often and supporting him whenever I possibly can. I’ve always enjoyed going to new racetracks and might even be open to trying a different genre of racing,” he added.

“We’ll still be all over the country chasing big money in the #49 like always,” Davenport continued. “But it will be refreshing to show up at all of these tracks because we want to and not because we have to be there for points. Not saying I won’t ever run for points again in my career, but it is just not in the cards for this year.”
