Heartland Modified Tour Re-Ignites In Western Missouri

  Press Release

The USRA Heartland Modified Tour presented by Real Racing Wheels returns to action this weekend with a long-awaited doubleheader in western Missouri, as Electric City Speedway in Butler, Missouri hosts the series on Friday, June 5 before teams make the short haul north to Nevada Speedway in Nevada, Missouri on Saturday, June 6.

The weekend marks the third consecutive season the Heartland Modified Tour has visited both facilities, two tracks that have already produced memorable moments in the young history of the series.

When the tour first rolled into Electric City Speedway in 2024, it was Berryton, KS driver Randal Schiffelbein Jr. who delivered one of the biggest upsets in series history. Schiffelbein held off a star-studded top five that included eventual series champion Tyler Wolff, series runner-up Chad Wheeler, multi-time USMTS champion Rodney Sanders, and regional standout Paden Phillips to score the first Heartland Modified Tour victory of his career.

The following night at Nevada Speedway, Rodney Sanders reminded everyone why he is considered one of the sport’s elite drivers. Sanders and Jason Hughes staged a thrilling late-race battle for the lead before Sanders finally took control. Hughes attempted to mount a comeback but spun with just three laps remaining, allowing Sanders to secure the victory on the Missouri bullring.

The two tracks appeared on separate weekends in 2025, but once again delivered headline-worthy performances.

At Electric City Speedway in April, Shadren Turner topped a stout 30-car field to earn the victory. Four months later at Nevada Speedway, Brandon Givens finally broke through for his first career Heartland Modified Tour victory after narrowly missing the win the previous evening at Humboldt Speedway.

Now in 2026, the two tracks find themselves paired together once again for a back-to-back weekend that could not come at a better time.

Persistent rain and widespread weather issues throughout the spring have severely impacted the Heartland Modified Tour schedule. Since opening the season at Humboldt Speedway in March, the series has been sidelined for nearly three months. Drivers, teams, officials, and fans alike are eager to get the season restarted and resume the tight early season points battle after the opening weekend at Humboldt Speedway.

Leading the standings entering the weekend is Tyler Davis of Haysville, Kansas. While Davis is still searching for his first HMT victory of the season, a pair of top-five finishes during the Humboldt openers have allowed him to build a slim 12-point advantage atop the championship standings.

Defending series champion Bobby Williams sits second in points and the Hermitage, Missouri driver will enjoy a pair of races close to home and could quickly erase the championship deficit with another strong performance.

Trevor Hughes currently occupies third in the standings and continues his pursuit of the top of the standings. Shadren Turner sits fourth after beginning the year with two top-five finishes and returns to the site of his Electric City Speedway triumph from one season ago.

Rookie Cole Campbell has quietly positioned himself fifth in points after opening the season with consecutive top-ten finishes, while returning series regulars, Wyatt Gaggero, Henry Chambers, and Paden Phillips all remain firmly within striking distance of the championship lead.

Other drivers deeper in the standings who could also prove dangerous this weekend, Chevy Coleman recently competed in his first ever USMTS weekend and earning his first career top ten and the series Hard Charger Award during the Hobo Nickel Nationals at Hancock County Speedway in Britt, IA.  He hopes to parlay that recent performance into success this weekend with the Heartland Modified Tour, while former tour winner Dakota Dale hopes a return to action can reignite his championship campaign.

Nevada Speedway promoter Jerry Davis is excited to welcome the series back for a third consecutive season.  “We’re super thrilled to have the HMT back for its third consecutive season at Nevada Speedway,” said Davis. “It’s quickly become a crowd favorite and race fans look forward to watching some of the region’s best modified talent battle it out on the Missouri bullring.”

With nearly three months of pent-up anticipation, a tightly contested championship battle, and two proven race tracks that have consistently delivered exciting racing, all signs point toward a memorable weekend as the USRA Heartland Modified Tour presented by Real Racing Wheels finally returns to competition.
