James Trantina banned modified ace Joe Chisholm from the three tracks he owns in Minnesota: North Central Speedway, Granite City Motor Park, and I-94 EMR Speedway after Chisholm questioned his disqualification from North Central Speedway on Saturday, September 5th.

Trantina stated, “I’m done with your stupid [crap]. You are banned and done at my three tracks. I94, Granite and NCS. You will also be getting a letter in the mail for your actions.”

“I’ll also be talking with Staley’s as if you choose to race USMTS next year your not allowed at our tracks and they can figure it out or we will cancel the USMTS show,” he added.

The Staley family runs the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS), where Chisholm sometimes competes. He is currently 19th in the points after competing in nine features. The USMTS scheduled the Inaugural Dig for Gold Modified Nationals that is expected to take place from August 12–15, 2027 at all three tracks.

The ban comes in the wake of Chisholm winning the IMCA feature at the track, but getting disqualified from the WISSOTA feature. He questioned the disqualification from the WISSOTA feature in a lengthy post on Facebook. He claimed he was subjected to a three-hour long post-tech inspection that involved tearing down his rear suspension and birdcages. While his birdcages were found to be of legal weight, he shared that he was disqualified due to an illegal body. He then alleged that he was not told what was illegal on his body.

Then on Sunday, Chisholm shared that he was required to go through a pre-tech inspection for both his WISSOTA car as well as his IMCA Modified. While he got his IMCA through pre-tech, he did not get the WISSOTA one through and was subsequently told to leave the property after a verbal confrontation with officials. Finally, he accused the tech officials of consuming alcohol during the tech inspection. 

“I am not asking for special treatment. I am asking for consistency, transparency, and accountability,” Chisholm wrote. “If my car was illegal, show me exactly where it was illegal, provide the measurement, and explain the rule that was violated. If I am going to be disqualified and then prohibited from racing the following day, there should be a clear and documented reason for that decision. Rules are rules — and that applies to the drivers and the officials enforcing them.”

Trantina responded in the comments of Chisholm’s post that his WISSOTA car had multiple violations that caused the disqualification including “illegal body – roof rake, 10″ too wide! Not an inch, 10; illegal bump stop; illegal sail panel; illegal rims.”

He added, “Also- he cries wolf but he wanted us to delete the pictures and the proof before he’d give us the check and trophy back, he didn’t want the proof out there.”

As for the pictures, Trantina shared those in other comments on the post. In one comment that he also shared to his own Facebook page he directly addressed a number of Chisholm’s claims saying, “Your car is so out of whack for WISSOTA, your bump stop as pictured here is illegal. Your body, I can post that picture next, rule is 78” and NO flare, it is 88” with flare. We were going to have you just not race after Saturday because it is so illegal. … I am the one that said, guys, he drove up this far, let’s give him a chance to fix it and make it right. BUT, I want him to pre tech. Not a big deal. Throw a shock on, fix the body, I figured he’ll an hour he can race.”

As for the claims regarding alcohol consumption, he said, “Pogo hasn’t touched a drop of alcohol in years. Nor Kenny. So again, trying an escape goat and blaming someone else instead of admitting your wrong.”

He also shared an image of the sail panel;

Chisholm disputed the images. In regards to the sail panel, he wrote, “this pannels still meets the required measurements and does not exceed 2” of bow. In or out.”

He also wrote, “not once did a tech guy take a tape measure and measure infront of me or talk to me about it. And I rolled across after the heat and asked if everthing was good bc your tech guy likes to pick on my stuff.”

In response to the roof rake measurement, he wrote, “not once would the track guy measure infront of me. And how do I know that the tape is hooked on the left door. And read the rule book. The right sail panels meets all the rules. I made it bc you didn’t like my other body bc it appears to be illigal.”

The two also went back and forth regarding previous payments. In response to Trantina telling Chisholm to keep an eye open for a letter in the mail likely telling him he’s officially banned from the tracks, Chisholm retorted, “wanna put my checks in the letter with that. you owe me 3 from your race tracks.”

Trantina replied, “wanna send us your 1099 like you were suppose to fill out and never have? Not my fault you don’t pick your checks up at the end of the race night ya dumbass!”

Chisholm responded, “filled out one at every track maybe keep your paperwork strait.”
