The Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Fueled by VP would sanction the Super Late Model portion of the Comeback Classic at the newly renovated Mansfield Speedway in Mansfield, OH and Kyle Moore of Mansfield, OH would start 12th and take the lead on lap twenty-five and pick up the $5,000 payday.
The win by the 35-year-old Moore would be his first of the season with the series and his third career Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Fueled by VP victory. Moore’s winning entry is a Longhorn Chassis powered by a Malcuit Race Engine and is sponsored by Tye Twarog Racing Parts, Kepling Flooring, Smitley Towing, Team Midwest Paint, The 803 Company, Joyride Transport, Wilson Family Realty, The Shortstop, Team Skinnee, R.L. Bond Septic Service, Henthorn Golf Carts, Coffman Corvette, Fat Belly BBQ, McKenzie Concrete, Coshocton Trucking, Froggy Fresh, Noonan Industries, and T. Evans Transport.
Rusty Schlenk would take the lead at the start of the Comeback Classic Valvoline A-Main, with R.J. Conley, Eric Wilson, J.R. Gentry, and Ryan Missler. Schlenk would quickly put some distance on the field, with second through fourth remaining steady, while Colten Burdette would take fifth from Missler on lap three. Just as Schlenk began to lap slower traffic, Ryan Markham would with a flat left rear tire to draw the first caution of the event. Schlenk held the lead on the restart, with Wilson taking second from Conley, while Burdette would go to fourth past Gentry. Kyle Moore, who had started 12th, would begin to charge toward the front and would make his way into the top five on lap seven, while Burdette would work past Conley for third one tour later on lap eight. Schlenk would begin to work past slower traffic again by lap twelve and Moore would claim fourth from Conley on the same circuit. Schlenk would open his lead to over 3.5 seconds, while Moore would sneak past Burdette for third on lap fifteen. The final caution would wave on lap sixteen when one of the infield tire barriers would get knocked out onto the track in turn two. Schlenk maintained the lead on the restart, while Moore would take the runner-up slot from Wilson, while Missler and Burdette would go fourth and fifth. Burdette would work past Missler for the fourth position on lap twenty. Meanwhile, Moore would be right there with Schlenk and on lap twenty-five, Schlenk got crossed up in turn one with a lapped car, allowing Moore to get a run on Schlenk down the backchute, with Moore taking the lead on exit of turn four. Moore would stay off the challenges of Schlenk over the final few laps and score the victory, with Schlenk finishing second, while Wilson would have a career-best finish with the series with a third place effort. Burdette and R.J. Conley completed the top five. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Missler, Rod Conley, Ryan Markham, Miles Cook II, and Seth Daniels.
The next event for the Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Fueled by VP will be on Saturday May 16 at Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, OH for the 2nd Annual Ronnie Moran Memorial, paying $6,000 to win.
