Luke Morey issued a clarification regarding his comments during his podium interview after finishing second in the Pepsi Herald & Review 100 at Macon Speedway on Sunday night.

After a solid run, where he methodically worked his way through the field hugging the bottom of the track, Morey brought it home second behind Brandon Sheppard, who dominated the race even with losing power steering 3/4s of the way through.

In his interview, Morey told DIRTVision’s Hunter Jordan, “It feels really good, but if Brandon wasn’t here we would’ve won it so kinda mad he came here, but still second is really good.”

“It’s my first time at all these tracks and we’re just here trying to learn. We keep coming up one spot short so eventually we should be there some day,” he concluded.

Following his interview, he shared in a post to Facebook, “Runner up In the Herald & Review 100! Drove from 6th to 2nd tonight at Macon Speedway. By far one of the coolest places I’ve been, congrats to Brandon Sheppard on the win. Thank you Bray and Jordan for all the hard work!!!! We visit Kankakee Speedway tomorrow. Can’t thank Brett enough for this opportunity, it’s been an amazing learning experience.”

Now, in a post to Facebook, Morey clarified that his comments regarding Sheppard were a joke, “So that everyone knows I’m not “mad” I finished 2nd last night 🤦‍♂️. It’s a dream come true to race at these tracks and even compete for a top 10. It was clearly a joke in my interview. Congrats to Brandon on the win.”

Morey has run well with the Summer Nationals. He’s currently 10th in the overall points standings after only starting 9 of 16 races. He’s had 4 top 5s and 7 top 10s. 7 of those 9 starts came in Week 4 where he had 4 Top 5s and 5 top 10s. He was inches away from getting his first win at Camden Speedway at the end of June. His Coltman Farms Racing teammate Sam Seawright beat him in a photo finish by 0.076 seconds.

Alongside the two second place finishes at Camden and Macon, his other top 5s came with a 5th place at Old No. 1 Speedway and a 4th place at Lincoln Speedway.

As Morey noted in his Facebook post recapping his second place finish, he will be back in action with the Summer Nationals tonight at Kankakee County Speedway and he’s expected to finish out the fifth and final week, which takes the tour to Michigan and Ohio with visits to I-96 Speedway, Butler Motor Speedway, Crystal Motor Speedway, Oakshade Raceway, and Wayne County Speedway alongside a lone stop in Indiana at Montpelier Speedway on Tuesday, July 7th.
