Macri Motorsports announced it has scrapped its plan to compete with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series at Knoxville Raceway following Kasey Kahne’s wreck at Shelby County with High Limit Racing on Thursday night.
The team announced earlier today, “Unfortunately after last nights incident we will no longer be in action this weekend at knoxville.”
“The team did have a spare car along but still outfitted for Anthony in hopes of his return soon,” the team explained. “The cockpit modifications are not as simple as bolting a seat in and required bars being cut out and moved to fit Kasey properly.”
“We hope everyone gets out and supports a race track this weekend,” the team concluded.
Kasey Kahne slammed into the wall hard while running next to Sye Lynch. He bounced off the wall, the car did a 180 degree turn and then began rolling and flipping into the turn before eventually coming to a stop.
Kahne was distraught after exiting his car, but confirmed he was okay, “Yeah, I’m alright.”
He then added, “Really frustrated with myself, put myself in a bad spot there. Had a run, but knew it would close if I didn’t get through quick, and I didn’t get through quick enough. That’s on me.”

Kahne has been filling in for Anthony Macri in the Macri Motorsports 39M car after Macri was injured in a crash at Williams Grove Speedway at the beginning of April. The trip to Knoxville Raceway to compete with the Outlaws was the last scheduled race that was scheduled to have Kahne in the car based on a schedule the team shared back at the end of May.
However, that was an extended schedule as Kahne was initially tapped to fill in for 10 races throughout the month of May as Macri recovered. It’s quite possible the schedule might be extended again depending on where Macri is at in his recovery.
He suffered compression factures of T4 and T5 after he wrecked and violently flipped while leading at Williams Grove on April 3rd.
The team shared that Macri was taken to a hospital following the wreck for evaluation and was “diagnosed with compression fractures of T4 and T5.”
