The MARS Racing Series announced that both the Friday and Saturday portions of its planned weekend at LaSalle Speedway were rained out, but that they have rescheduled Friday’s Twisted Twin 25s to September 3rd.
On Thursday, August 13th, the series announced that the Friday portion of the event was rained out, “After continuous rounds of showers and storms have battered the area throughout the week, and more expected throughout the afternoon and evening on Thursday, Friday’s portion of the Illinois Valley Showdown presented by Action Truck Parts Inc at LaSalle Speedway has been postponed.”
“Numerous rounds of rain have left the track and facility saturated, with no optimal window of drying time prior to Friday’s portion of the event. With mother nature hindering both the MARS Late Model Championship powered by FK Rod Ends and LaSalle Speedway schedules in 2026, individuals from both parties are exploring a possible reschedule date of the Twisted Twin 25’s,” the series added.
Now, Saturday night has also been rained out. The series shared in a post to Facebook, “Mother Nature has staked her claim on the 2026 racing season, and this weekend has proved to be no different. After Friday’s portion of the Illinois Valley Showdown presented by Action Truck Parts Inc at LaSalle Speedway & Event Center was postponed yesterday due to numerous rounds of rain, track and series officials are now forced with no option but to cancel the Saturday night portion as well.”
“Overnight rain, and continued rain this morning, has left the facility drenched, with the property receiving over two inches of rain in the past twenty-four hours,” the Series explained. “With additional rain expected overnight tonight, and Saturday morning, there is no feasible way for the event to be held this weekend.”
However, the Series did reschedule the Twisted Twin 25s, which were supposed to take place tonight. That event will now take place on Thursday, September 3rd ahead of the series previously planned doubleheader at Farmer City Raceway on Friday, September 4th, and at Fairbury Speedway on Saturday, September 5th.
The Twisted Twin 25s will each pay $5,000 to-win and will be 25 laps each. The MARS Series will be joined on the car by the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds and DIRTcar Stock Cars.
LaSalle Speedway promoter Tony Izzo Jr. shared, “It’s been a rough week with all the rain and we’ve tried all we could, but it’s unfortunately not going to happen this weekend. We are extremely thankful that we could get another date scheduled for the ‘Twisted Twin 25’s,’ which will be a great weekend of racing in the area.”
With this weekend’s events at LaSalle getting rained out, the series will not be back in action until Friday, August 28th when it heads to Benton Speedway in Benton Missouri. Racing action at Benton is the first of a tripleheader. On Saturday, August 29th, it will be at I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park and then on Sunday, August 30th it will be at the newly opened Belle-Clair Fairgrounds Park Speedway in Belleville, Illinois.
Ryan Unzicker currently leads the MARS Late Model Championship. He has an 83 point advantage over Jason Feger. Dylan Thornton sits in third, 112 back. Daniel Adam is fourth, 233 points behind Unzicker. Bob Gardner sits in fifth. He is 239 points back.
Unzicker saw his lead shrink by five points after this past weekend’s races at Sycamore Speedway and Macon Speedway. While he won at Sycamore, a fourth place finish at Macon saw him lose ground to Jason Feger, who finished second both nights. Dylan Thornton got his first win with the series at Macon.
