MARS Series Director Jonathan Clayton explained why competitor Derrick Stewart was disqualified during the series’ race at Davenport Speedway on Friday night.

With 11 laps to go, Stewart, who was running in 12th spun and drew the caution. The announcer stated, “Stewart goes around 360 and just like that the Midwest Sheet Metal caution comes out for the second time on lap 29 of 40.”

During the caution, the announcer reported there were “more problems over in turn 1. Jake Little and the 43 of Derrick Stewart facing the wrong way. Heavy left side damage of the 38J of Jake Little. Flat left rear for him.”

The announcer then shared that Stewart had been DQ’d, “The 43 has been told that his fun meter is officially pegged by the officials and he has been asked to leave the speedway after his actions there during the caution flag.”

The FloRacing cameras did not pick up what occurred between Little and Stewart and the announcer did not share any more information. MARS Series Director Jonathan Clayton did share with StockCarReport.com that Stewart “hit Jake Little under caution after those two got together to bring out that caution.”

He also noted that “it has all been handled and what is done is done.”

Jason Feger ended up holding off a hard-charging Ryan Unzicker to get the win. The caution for Stewart and Little actually allowed Feger to reclaim the lead after Unzicker had gotten by him on the back stretch, but the lap had not been completed. On the ensuing restart, Feger was able to keep Unzicker behind him despite his best efforts that included showing his nose underneath him exiting turn 2 with just 3 to go.

Feger was glad to be back in victory lane after a tough start to the 2026 season, “It feels really good. We’ve definitely been struggling this year. Definitely haven’t been up to our standards. Been in a new car most of the year, and pulled out Old Faithful here.”

He also admitted the caution played into his favor, “Ryan [Unzicker’s] been super fast all year so his car’s really good. Like I said, I’m pry glad that yellow came out.”

As for Unzicker, he shared, “I had a pass on the back stretch and then I hear a caution and I was cussing in my helmet. I didn’t want to see that.” Nevertheless, he added, “Coming out here with a second is great for us. Just trying to stay in the top 5 and keep our points lead.”

With the second place finish and Dylan Thornton finishing in third, he extended his championship points lead to 56. Tanner English, who finished fifth is 66 points back. The win vaulted Feger into fourth. He’s now just 85 points behind. Caden McWhorter sits in fifth 90 points out after his 8th place finish.

The series heads to Fairbury tonight for the Triple Down Shootout with $5,000 to-win on the line. It closes out its tripleheader Memorial Day weekend at Spoon River Speedway on Sunday for the Gary Cook Jr. Memorial. It also pays $5,000 to-win.
