Muskingum County Speedway released the points format for its 1st Annual Shale Crescent Dirt Cup that pits the 12 best World of Outlaws Late Model drivers against the 12 best Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series drivers.
At the end of May, track promoter Tristin Moran, shared details on what the format for the event would look like. He said in a video posted to the track’s Facebook page, “Basically what’s going to happen is it’s going to be a format of hot lap, qualify, heat race, king of the hill — which will not actually set any lineups that’s just for points — and then feature.”
“So basically, each driver and each team can win points from how they qualify, how they run their heat race, a 1v1 verse all 12 drivers on each side in the king of the hill, and then their feature finish,” he continued. “So each driver can earn points all night long. We’ll have a live tally running on our scoreboard in the infield along on Flo as well.”
He then promised that they would put a graphic together to provide more information about it as well.
That graphic, which includes the full point break down as well as more information on what the King of the Hill format looks like, has been shared.
First, as Moran previously noted the Dirt Cup will include your standard Group A and Group B qualifying and heats. The qualifying groups will be determined by odds and evens based on where the drivers are in points in their respective series. So those in positions 1,3,5,7,9, and 11th in Lucas Oil points will be in the same group as those in 1,3,5,7,9, and 11th in Outlaw points.

As for the King of the Hill format it is described as “when drivers in their point position do a 1v1 two-lap dash for points ONLY.” The track shared an example, “Bobby Pierce (1st in WoO points) goes against Hudson O’Neal (1st in Lucas Oil points) etc.” The King of the Hill format will start with the drivers in 12th in their respective series and work its way down to 1st with the duel between Pierce and O’Neal.
Finally, there will be a feature where all 24 cars will battle against each other.
As for the points structure only first and second in the Qualifying Groups will receive points. Two points will be awarded for quick time and a single point for second.
The heats will award three points for 1st, two points for 2nd, and 1 point for third. No points are awarded for 4th. There will be four heat races with 6 cars battling in each one. It’s unclear how many laps each heat will be.
Each King of the Hill duel will award a single point.
Finally, the feature awards: 1st) 20; 2nd) 18; 3rd) 16; 4th) 14; 5th) 13; 6th) 12; 7th) 11; 8th) 10; 9th) 9; 10th) 8; 11th) 7; 12th) 6; 13th) 5; 14th) 4; 15th) 3; 16th) 2; 17th) 1; 18th) 0; 19th) 0; 20th 0.
