Nick Hoffman made it very clear he was not happy with Bobby Pierce following the FloRacing Night in America race at Mason City Motor Speedway.

With 5 laps left in the race, Pierce threw a slider at Hoffman through 1 and 2, but as he was coming up out of the exit of turn 2, Hoffman had a run on the top and the two made contact with Pierce’s right rear connecting with Hoffman’s left front. The contact sent Hoffman up and over the cushion and into the wall.

Pierce would take the second position and attempt to mount a charge on O’Neal, but in the final corner of the last lap he chose to take the bottom line and that allowed Hoffman to motor past him on the top and get to second.

In his second place podium interview, Hoffman told FloRacing’s Trenton Berry, “Those last 7 laps, when [Bobby Pierce] slid me I seen red. And I was just pretty pissed. And it was like if I could’ve got back to him I was going to feed him the same business. But it’s just part of it. I was pretty frustrated.”

He shared more details following the race with Always Race Day, “I didn’t get off 4 great, but I really didn’t know if anybody was there anyway. So I went into 1 like I typically would. We were to the point where I was barely even lifting into 1. It was going to be tough for anybody to throw a slider at that point. And he come blowing on across there. Wasn’t even close. I lift him up. He goes over my nose. I end up damn near in those yuke tires off of 2.”

“And then at that point I’m super pissed,” Hoffman continued. “Like I said in my interview I seen red. I don’t know if I ran that hard for whatever six laps than I probably ever have in my career. I was just trying to get back to him. We ended up crashed anyway after the checkered, but my [crap] was still going to be crashed if I would’ve got to him. At least I was able to finish second.”

Hoffman went on to share that he spoke to Pierce after the race, “I just was like, ‘Dude, if you want to race like that I will destroy you.’ We race against each other every week and he’s been known to doing that kind of stuff. And I will be honest, he’s never done it to me. Every time he slides me, makes sure he’s clear and everything.”

As for what Pierce told him, Hoffman relayed, “He said he was sorry, which we’ve seen that a bunch too. Said he was sorry and everything. I get it. It’s like hard racing. We’re racing for eight to go for the win there, basically. At some point you got to lift. He says he went in there, got loose.”

“I just was obviously frustrated,” he continued. “We race against each other all the time and I just told him, ‘Don’t do that stupid [crap].’ And he was very apologetic ’cause I think he gets it. He knows I ain’t going to take that [crap]. Just frustrating.”

As for Pierce, he told Berry during his third place interview, “I saw Dotson slide Devin early in the race and he wiped out the wall. So it was really hard to send it in there at the speeds we were going. When I sent her in there, I slid a couple people perfectly, and that time when I went in there I think my right rear was getting a little hot and it started to slide and I started to back off it. Without seeing a replay, I don’t know what happens, but I pry didn’t give Nick enough room, but that’s hard racing. I don’t know. Until I see a replay I can’t comment on that stuff.”

Additionally in response to a fan questioning why he did not say he was wrong, he wrote, “Can’t be wrong when all you do is piss excellence 💯”

“All jokes aside, even before seeing a replay, I did tell Nick that I was in the wrong so yeah.. Also, you must’ve missed the part of my interview where I literally said I got loose & “probably didn’t leave him enough room”🤔”

Additionally, he responded to another individual who took issue with the slide job, “Well it ain’t sunshine and rainbows now is it 😆🤷🏻‍♂️ We’re racing hard & dicing it up for top positions… not tryna bend sheet metal. But you just like to [whine]. Your friend Tony brought me here btw.. thank him.”

Both Pierce and Hoffman will be back in action with the World of Outlaws Late Models this weekend at Maquoketa Speedway for the Hawkeye 100 on Friday and Saturday. Racing action begins on Friday night with a 40-lap $12,000 to-win race and then concludes on Saturday with a 60-lap, $25,000 to-win battle.

The Saturday night race will also conclude the Hawkeye Great 8 mini series, a $10,000 point fund, that includes the two FloRacing Night in America races at Marshalltown and Mason City and the two nights at Maquoketa. Pierce was leading the points fund after his win at Marshalltown, but he’s likely tied with Hudson O’Neal given they both have a win and a third place finish. The winner of the points fund will take home $2,500 while second place pays $1,450.
