Night one of the ‘Modoc 100’ weekend was held on Friday at Modoc Speedway and it was Payton Stevenson that dominated the Schaeffer’s Oil by Mike Bruner Red Clay 602 Late Model Series portion of the program to claim his first career series victory! Payton topped the speed chart in qualifying to earn the pole position for the 25-lap headliner. The Locust Grove, Georgia ace then grabbed the point at the drop of the green flag and never looked back en route to picking up the $2,000 winner’s check.
Finishing a distant second at the checkered flag was runner-up Luke Cooper, who started in the third spot. Shaun Thomas, who rolled off from the outside of the fourth row, steered past five competitors to round out the podium in third. Current series point leader Cass Fowler came home in the fourth spot, while Luke Clements moved up four positions to place fifth at the finish.
A total of eighteen 602 Late Model competitors signed into the pit area at the Modoc, South Carolina facility on Friday for round nineteen of the Red Clay tour. Cass Fowler turned the quickest lap overall during RaceDay Safety hot laps, while Payton Stevenson turned up the wick during Knowles Race Parts and Bodies qualifying to earn Fast Time honors. The entire feature field was set solely through the time trial session with Stevenson (quickest in Group A) and Morghan Johnson (fastest in Group B) earning the front row for the 25-lapper.
