Photographer Rick Rarer, who runs SprintCarNews.com, shared a positive update after he underwent surgery on his leg after being struck by a sprint car at Wayne County Speedway on Monday night.

Rarer shared to Facebook, “Now that I’m out of surgery for my leg and able to kinda function I just wanted to thank everyone for outpouring of concern and checking on me.”

“Along with my leg, some concussions, brain bleeds and a bunch of broken ribs I’m doing ok,” he continued. “Another leg surgery Friday and hopefully home soon after that. Again THANK YOU everyone it really means a lot!”

Rarer was one of three individuals struck in the infield of Wayne County Speedway on Monday night during the B feature for the All Star Circuit of Champions. The Apple Creek East Union Township Fire Department shared in a press release that it “responded to an incident … during Ohio Sprint Speed Week at Wayne County Speedway involving a sprint car that left the racing surface and struck spectators located within the infield area of the track.”

“Three spectators sustained injuries as a result of the incident,” the Fire Department continued. “Two patients suffered critical injuries and required advanced medical care. One critically injured patient was transported by Apple Creek Fire Department, while a second critically injured patient was airlifted from the scene by MedFlight. A third patient sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by Orrville Fire Department, who responded to provide mutual aid assistance.”

Along with Rarer, one of the other individuals struck was Ohio Motorsport Photography co-founder Kyle E. Henline. The Ohio Motorsport Photography Facebook shared that he was recovering in a hospital after undergoing surgery to repair his broken leg. The company said in a post to Facebook, “On Monday, June 15, 2026 while photographing at Wayne County Speedway for All Star Ohio Sprint Speedweek, Co founder of Ohio Motorsport Photography, at roughly 9:15pm Kyle E. Henline was struck by [a] 410 Sprint Car that had left the racing surface in turns one and two in an effort to avoid an accident in the middle of the turn.”

“Kyle was evaluated on site from the FENIX and Apple Creek paramedic service,” the company continued. “Kyle was transported to a hospital in Canton, OH after it was determined it would be quicker than waiting for a second MedFlight to arrive. Kyle was evaluated by the medical trauma unit upon arrival, he was found to have broken his tibea and fibea in his right leg. Around 7:30 Tuesday morning Kyle was taken back to surgery to have a metal rod implanted as well as plates and screws to fix the break. Kyle is currently in recovery at an undisclosed hospital surrounded by family.”

The update concluded, “The Henline and Ohio Motorsports Family would like to thank the Wayne County Speedway safety team and staff. They would also like to thank the Apple Creek Paramedic units and all of the love, support and prayers from the fans, peers and friends.”

Third photographer injured was Chase Grimm. He shared an update early Tuesday morning revealing he was home and recovering, “Thank you to everyone for their thoughts and prayers. I am home and getting into bed now for a long nights sleep. Fortunately I only sustained some bruised ribs, lots of cuts and scrapes, and a concussion.”

“I want to give Jim Balentine a huge shoutout for helping me out and keeping everyone updated. Also prayers to Rick and Kyle as they keep fighting,” he concluded.

The All Star Circuit of Champions will return to Wayne County Speedway on Saturday for the finale of the Ohio Sprint Speedweek.
