Robert Ballou shared a health update after he was involved in a wreck with Justin Grant at Tri-State Speedway for the finale of the USAC Indiana Sprint Week.

On the first lap of the heat race while they were battling for fourth, Grant’s right rear made contact with Ballou’s left rear. The contact initially lifted Grant’s rear end up in the air. As he came back down, Ballou’s car was spun around and was perpendicular with the track. It then performed a barrel roll and smashed hard on the car’s halo. That first hit then twisted the car up in the air into a pirouette. The car briefly came back down on its bumper and then was shot back up into the air before it came crashing down on the halo again. It then rolled through the rest of the corner before eventually come to stop on its roof.

Ballou shared in a post to Facebook, “Thank you everyone for the messages and comments-. I am doing pretty well considering, but I am sore! Luckily my scans on Saturday came back negative, but I still have another check up next week.”

He continued, “A massive thank you to all of my safety gear for doing its job and keeping me safe! Hoping to be back racing next Friday as long as I get the okay next week! Don’t forget to grab some merch!”

Ballou had a decent Indiana Sprint Week where he ended up finishing 8th in points behind Kyle Cummins, Grant, Mitchel Moles, Jake Swanson, Brady Bacon, Kevin Thomas Jr., and Logan Seavey. He got a win at Bloomington Speedway on July 31st, had 1 Top 5, and 6 Top 10s in nine races. 

With his win at Bloomington, he is now tied with Bryan Clauson for 10th in all-time wins in Indiana Sprint Week with seven. That win was also his 40th USAC National Sprint Car feature win and puts him in a tie with Gary Bettenhausen as the 11th most winningest driver in USAC National Sprint Car history.
