Rocket Chassis issued a statement denying rumors that the company had been sold.

In a post to social media, the company said, “With all of the recent idle time in the racing world, there have been rumors going around that Rocket Chassis has been sold. Those rumors couldn’t be further from the truth.”

“Mark Richards and Steve Baker — the same duo who built this company from the ground up in 1986 — are still at the helm and still focused on building the best Dirt Late Model chassis in the business,” the company declared. “Rocket Chassis teams find victory lane every single week, and we are proud to see them enjoy increasing success with our program. We look forward to working with our fantastic customers as that trend continues upward.”

The team then pitched, “Get in line now to get your new Rocket XR2 before the big races hit!”

To that point, the company celebrated the success of a number of their customers who won over the Memorial Day weekend including Tyler Erb at I-96 Speedway, Clent Busby at North Alabama Speedway, Ronnie VanNatter at Winston Speedway, Tom Sprague Jr. also at Winston Speedway, Joey Tanner at Williamette Speedway, Cody Lear at Clinton County Speedway, Mike Harrison at I-55 Speedway, and Tyler Peterson at River Cities Speedway.

The company formed in 1991 after Richards had Bullitt Race Cars owner Ray Callahan build him two chassis to his specifications. Davey Johnson drove one of the cars to two wins in the same day at West Virginia Motor Speedway. Johnson commented to Richards on the car’s performance, “This thing comes off the corner like a rocket!” The next week when they showed up to Pennsboro it had Rocket Chassis on the nose.

After the car won at West Virginia Motor Speedway, Callahan informed Richards he would not build anymore of the cars so Richards started building his own, given he had orders that needed to be fulfilled. The company has designed a number of different models over the years with the most recent being the XR2. The company builds between 200-250 cars a year.
