Ryan Blaney shared his perspective on what happened during the massive wreck during the second stage at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday that ended his day.
17 laps into Stage 2, both Ross Chastain and Bubba Wallace moved from the bottom line to the middle lane in an attempt to block a huge run coming from Blaney, Joey Logano, and Josh Berry. While the two were able to cleanly move up into the middle lane, they were not able to handle the pushes and Wallace was sent up the track by Chastain and into Cole Custer.
Wallace would go head first into the wall while Custer cut down to try and avoid, but made contact with Daniel Suarez. Suarez would then pinball into Blaney’s right quarter panel sending him around and he pancaked the wall after receiving some shots from Tyler Reddick, Custer, Logano, and Ty Gibbs.

Blaney spoke to FOX: NASCAR about the wreck saying, “With the wreck I just feel like we all just got pinballing off each other a little bit. From what I’ve seen it just kinda of all bumping and bumping. They were unstable. It turned Bubba to the top, the outside lane was there and he got clipped.
“It’s just one of those things, we just kind of all-. It closed tight, quick. We all got pinballing. And we’ve seen that so many times. Like you kind of get pinballing off of each other. You’re trying to lift and check. Next thing you know, everybody wrecks.”
“Unfortunate. I hate that we were in the middle of it. I don’t really know if there’s anyone to blame. We just kinda of got bouncing off each other. It’s a shame the cars got tore up. I apprecaite the Wurth Group for being with us. I thought our car was really fast. And we did a great job in Stage 1 of hitting the strategy right and one stopping it and set ourselves up really good for Stage 2. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to finish. … I hate it for our group. Let’s move on and go to Texas,” he concluded.
While Blaney claimed that no one was to blame, Bubba Wallace did put the blame on himself when it came to doing a better job of getting pushed.
Wallace told FOX, “Just hate it. Hate it for Xfinity. Hate it for our team. Don’t want to have any DNFs. We’ve got two now. It’s a bummer. But we got to figure out how to be pushed better. So I take responsibility on that. We’ll have a good debrief and figure out what we can do to make our Toyotas a little bit better being pushed. And maybe not have that happen.”
