Following the 410 Sprint Car feature at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night that saw Aaron Reutzel get the win and Ryan Timms finish second, Timms’ car owner Shane Liebig threatened to undo Reutzel’s High Limit Racing Championship pursuit.

Speaking to Always Race Day after the feature, Liebig discussed how their team performed, “We got off to a pretty good start running second mostly behind that 45 car (Rees Moran) and then he (Ryan Timms) got to the lead. Had a little bit of trouble in traffic. And then, you know, Aaron’s experienced and ended up getting him, getting him in traffic. Unfortunate deal. He did good.”

From there, he appeared to take issue with Reutzel’s victory lane comments, “I mean, as always, Aaron’s absolutely classless about it, but that’s just his M.O. Instead of just being a human, being glad that he won on a dry, slick track for the first time in his life, he got to run his mouth and talk crap. We have some history. So I look forward to seeing him at Eldora to remind him that he’s running for point title and I’m not.”

Liebig then shared what his and his team’s upcoming plans are, “We’re getting ready to go. We’ll go to Huset’s tomorrow night. We’ll go to Attica. And I’m going to go to Eldora and beat his ass in the ground and then we’ll come back and probably run next Saturday, both classes. And then Huset’s again.”

“How can we [complain],” he added. “This is our fifth or sixth second place this year. I hate second, but a lot of guys wish they were us, right?”

At the end of interview, Liebig also said, “As much as Aaron runs his mouth, I’ve already accomplished much more than he has running here every night for five years.”

Reutzel won the 25-lap 410 feature at Knoxville after passing Timms on lap 23 with a huge slider in 1 and 2. He then held off Timms the remaining three laps. In his victory lane speech, Reutzel said, “You give him a chance to come back, he’ll liable to wipe you out. So I wanted to make sure and get away from him as fast as I could.”

“We were pretty good tonight,” he continued. “It’s such a handful getting up off the corners. I really thought it was just me and then I started watching the 10 (Timms) and the 45 and everyone. It’s giving everyone problems getting off the corner. Maybe I had the least amount of problems. I don’t feel like it ’cause I’m wore out. I had to manhandle that car.”

“Wanted to try some things tonight. I think we made a little progress, but still got a ways to go to get comfortable with how treacherous the track gets and how these tires are. So I think we made some strides tonight though. Happy about that. Had Don Long’s 410 in tonight. So really happy about that. I know Don loves to see his motors win. That was a good run, good night for Don. Just a good night for our entire team. Like I said, coming from 9th that’s hard to do here so I think those extra five laps definitely made the difference. Just happy with our entire Power Plus, Folken Brothers Trucking, Don Long, Rasmusson’s, Bargain Barn, Bryant Paver, Monty Motorsports, Elite Wings, Triple X Chassis, ShureBuilt Suspension, Keiser Wheels. I know I’m forgetting somebody. Dean, Brogan, Blair, Shelbey came to help. Man, just great team effort and it’s cool to win at Knoxville again.”

It is unclear exactly what Reutzel is referring to when he charged that Timms is “liable to wipe you out,” but Timms was involved in a violent wreck with Kelby Watt at the beginning of this month at Knoxville during a heat race.

Timms appeared to hit a hole or made contact with the inside berm and began bouncing through the corner. He was unable to get the car fully back underneath him. He drifted up the track and Watt’s left front was still there. The contact sent Watt flying head first into the outside wall and it tore the car to bits. He then bounced down the track and was smashed by Riley Goodno and Jack Anderson, who were attempting to avoid him, but had nowhere to go.

Reutzel is currently involved in a very contested battle for the High Limit Racing Championship. He sits in second just 29 points behind current leader Rico Abreu. The series’ next race is at Fremont later tonight and then they head to Eldora Speedway on Wednesday, July 15th for the Double Down Duels and Thursday, July 16th for the Joker’s Jackpot race. That all takes place ahead of the World of Outlaws’ 43rd annual Kings Royal weekend that starts on Friday, July 17th with the Knight Before the Kings Royal and concludes on Saturday, July 18th with the Kings Royal.
