Ryan Unzicker looked to have rebounded from some struggles on Friday night and was putting together what looked like a solid top 5 finish, but unfortunately, his night ended early and he finished in 20th.
For the first half of the 50-lap race, Unzicker was running in the fourth and fifth position and battling with Trey Mills while also keeping an eye on the 3-car battle for the lead between Jason Feger, Shannon Babb, and Michael Leach. Unfortunately, with 24 laps left in the race, Unzicker suffered a flat right rear tire.
After getting it changed, he rejoined the field at the tail end and began working his way back to the front. With 20 laps left, he had moved up to 17th, when a caution came out for a spun Kyle Hammer. It was during that caution that Unzicker, again, pulled his car into the infield, but this time he never returned to the race and finished in 20th.
Unzicker shared on Facebook that his night was ended because he “got crashed.”
He wrote, “Saturnight at the FALS Frenzy started out as another great night fast time won our heat running 4th in the feature got a flat went to the back and got crashed that resulted in a DNF.”
“We spent Sunday in the shop getting her fixed up we’ve got a few more nights to get ready for the final mars nights at Wheatland next weekend,” he concluded.
For those watching on FloRacing, it was unclear exactly what happened as there was no replay of what caused Kyle Hammer to spin and suffer significant right rear damage, but based on Unzicker’s post it appears that he was involved in the wreck.
Hammer shared with StockCarReport.com, “We were running towards the back. We were kinda hanging on at that point. We had run the top the whole race and the cushion had pretty much destroyed the whole right side of the car. … It wasn’t from even hitting anybody, it was literally just the cushion. We really only got into the wall one time down the back stretch. The guy in front of us kinda stumbled a little bit and we got into the wall just a touch, and it wasn’t even really hard. We didn’t make any contact with wheels or anything just the body only. It was such a hard cushion it just peeled piece by piece off.”
As for the wreck involving Unzicker, he detailed, “So we’re just hanging on back there, had a restart, and we go to the bottom. Coming back around after taking the green flag on the restart, [Unzicker] drives into turn 1 and just tries to fit where it’s not going to fit.”
“There’s some pictures that his boy posted on social media where his left front is completely killed,” Hammer continued. “That’s where he tried to fit between me and a tractor tire and there was not room. … He absolutely destroyed the tractor tire and then destroyed the entire left side of my car at the same time.”
“At the same time he still proceeded to never lift off the gas and we drove all the way down the back stretch. By the time we got to turn 3, we were still making contact and he drove over my left front with his right rear and spun me out. I don’t know if that popped his tire or what.”
Hammer then reacted to Unzicker’s post about getting crashed, “As far as his ‘got crashed’ post, I really don’t know what he’s talking about because he crashed me. He didn’t stop on the race track. He didn’t spin out. I got spun out and got ran over. I don’t know where the ‘got crashed’ came from.”
“There really wasn’t much to it,” Hammer added. “More of a racing deal. And then the only thing I was even remotely upset about was the fact that I was getting blamed for causing a wreck when I was the one that got wrecked. … He absolutely drove through us. And then we got spun out and he’s saying he got wrecked. So it doesn’t make sense.”

The wreck and DNF saw Unzicker’s MARS championship points lead significantly shrink with Feger winning the race. Heading into the weekend, Unzicker had an 82 point advantage, but he now only has a 36 point lead.
The MARS season concludes this upcoming weekend with the Falls Nationals at Lucas Oil Speedway. On Friday, October 9th, the series will battle for a $5,000 to-win race and then on Saturday they will conclude with a $10,000 to-win race.
